RADIAS - future value vs. current price?

Post by pillbug »

OK so I'm currently back toward the cold side of my hot/cold relationship with the TEX61... and am considering a RADIAS to add to (not replace) my current setup which consists of the TEX61, Reason3, and an old TG300 just for fun. I like the idea of knobs-on experimentation (somewhat missing from the above-mentioned gear) and the pattern/step sequencer of the RADIAS. To that end I've also been looking at MC505 and MC909 for fun, but I'll probably prefer the synthesis capability of RADIAS to those in the end.

Looking at the current prices of around $600-700 for the RADIAS-R (don't need another keybed), what is the likely future worth of a module like RADIAS expected to be, both regarding how the sounds and functionality will hold up (most important) and the corresponding collectibility/ $$ value (of lesser importance)? Thanks for all replies/discussion.

The Radias is a future classic - It is a lot more than many people give it credit for. Rather than being just a virtual analog synth, it adds all kinds of digital-like and hybrid processing.

Regarding patterns, you can program a pattern which is quite cool in itself but you can't switch patterns whilst playing. Theoretically you could adjust the patterns whilst playing but you can't string them together like you can on an electribe or other groovebox for example. With some clever usage you can still make a whole song out of them though.

X-trade, thanks for the reply. I've been looking at EMX-1 and ESX-1 videos on y-t. What is/are the main differences between these two models? (I tried reading through the Korg marketing-jumbo but nothing really jumps out as to their differences). And do you think they're more flexible/easier to program/use than the RADIAS as far as creating patterns and songs? Thanks

The EMX has built in sounds (with no sampler) and the ESX is a sampler with less built in sounds.

I plan on getting the EMX as soon as the SD models drop and just got done looking at the differences between the two.

The ESX and EMX work wonderful together. Being able to call upon synths, drums and an advanced sampler all with analog style controls, and arp slider....its just incredible having so much versatility.
Using Korg EMX & ESX, R3, and MicroX.

BTW, I've had my EMX for a couple weeks now and I'm *SO* glad I got it. Totally worth it. I've done some really cool things with it and no time at all.
