Korg R3 vs Korg XL

Post by jakeantoun »

Hey

I need a synth for my band and mucking around recording at home, but i dont want gay trance/electro sounds. i need an 80's spacey sound
which one is the go?

r3 sounds very digital however i know you can edit these presets which is great, im leaningt towards xl....kinda, since its the latest, the key size is not really an issue. il also need it for live gigs too

help!

If you read any other post on microKorgXL Vs R3, you'll see that generally the R3 is a better buy for your money. It generally only costs a bit more than the XL and you get a load more features.

the R3 is a lot more programmable, has more effects processing slots, and a full selection of effects types, has more hands-on knobs for tweaking live or programming. The 'digital' sound is mainly down to the presets. It has exactly the same synth engine as the XL and the Radias.

I've giged a couple of shows with my R3 and I have to say that it really sits well in the mix. Other things that the R3 has over the MKXL are the natural sized keys, motion and mod sequencer, formant motion recording (you can do some CRAZY patches with this) and: NATURAL SIZED KEYS

don't be hatin on gays, trance, or electro.

also, electro has a lot more 80s then you think....

all music is connected.... really, be more mature next time.

F*CKIN A! Lol. This is a keyboard forum after all. Trance, electro, etc... is all related from it's 70's and 80's predecessors. As for Gay bashing, well let's be honest. We all call something that sucks "gay" and someone stupid "retarded." It doesn't mean anyone is guilty of hate crimes....but yea, I wouldn't go saying stuff like that expecting advice in return.
Using Korg EMX & ESX, R3, and MicroX.

lol yes. I just needed to find as many ways possible to politely exact revenge on jakeantoun for dissing trance and 'lectro. :P

sure, anyone can make trance and electro real easy. that's why much of it is terrible. but there is real great trance and electro out their, made by people with real talent (daft punk, justice much?)

and to go even further, electro is such a broad genre that a lot of 80s synth music could even be called electro.
