Novice needs help from sample experts ! Please !

Post by Aussie-Andy »

Hi all,

Forgive me if this sounds elementary, but I'm new to this.

Basically what I want to do is run keyboard samples like Mellotron, 8 sec per key, and assign via editor the correct note across any point in 6 octaves and playback thru a midi keyboard.

Is the editor user friendly ?
No transpose method on microsamlper itself ?
Can I set to 24khz rate on microsampler regardless of what rate the external sample is, to accomodate more sample time ?
Is Akai mpc500 a better choice for this task ?

I owned an Fantom X6 and it was a breeze doing this, but I sold it and now have an M50. Will the microsampler function just like this excpet for shorter sampling time ? It looks easy to use and fun, suited for a musician of my level, since I don't need pro control over sampling.

Any help would be appreciated.

For what you're wanting to do the MS is probably not ideal. I can't really comment as to whether the MPC500 could do it better. Basically, you get 36 sample slots per bank with the MS, but the bank switching process can't be done instantly...takes about 10 seconds or less depending on how much sample data is in the banks. Both of these samplers are quite a step down from a Fantom though. The Korg editor software is very easy to use, but is also very basic. As for sampling rates, I've sampled pretty much everything at 24kHz since I started using the MS. Hopefully this helps somewhat.
Here's a link to my YouTube page with some videos of the MS in use:
