Creating Korg styles in an external sequencer +Roland Styles

Post by mazenumar »

Hello fellow Korgers,,

As u can probably tell, i'm a newbie here..

And i'm very interested in getting help from you all, I got my PA2x about 4 months ago, and it's always been amazing ever since, but i'm getting bored of how the styles are created on the machine, perhaps there is a way to create styles in an external sequencer like Logic or Protools and then saving the created file as midi, but I never got my head round it...

is it possible? :?:

bearing in mind that we might need to load all the sounds from the Korg into the sequencer, and creating midi drum kits using the wave samples collected from the korg, in order to get the exact sound on the computer from the korg... too confusing for some people, but a lot fun in my view :D

thanks a lot guys...

Maz

Thanks a lot Nedim

really quick reply.....

and such a fool of me, not looking at the korgpa website, before posting the thread....

btw, I have a Roland G1000, and tried my very best to get the Roland styles to work on my Korg, I am only using the Oriental "C74" kit in the Roland, and sampled and properly mapped all of it on my korg, then converted the styles using styleworks, but the styles are not working like they should, apart from bass and accomps, but drums are not working as they do in the Roland, the midi data of the drum kit is played in different keys in the Korg...

any help, please
??!!!

thanks

Hi,
not sure if I understood correctly, but,
if you're using Styleworks, it's converting FROM Roland TO Korg drum mapping.
You've already done the conversion if you've mapped the Roland Drums to suit Korg drum mapping, so technically you're converting the drums twice, hence some of the drums could end up playing back incorrectly.

I've found Styleworks isn't always accurate when converting drums, especially some of the Yamaha XG drums to Korg. I usually convert my styles from a midifile of the style, manually, with a pc sequencer.

In your case, look up the import/export function for styles. You could export your whole style as a single midifile, record your roland style as a midifile to match the variations , fills etc, & then replace the drumtrack in your converted style with the drum track from your roland midifile, and you'll get far more accuracy than letting EMC do it.

You could try mapping your drums on the korg to the original Roland mapping, but no guarantee EMC will get it 100% correct.

best wishes

thanks a lot for the reply Rikki...

I know where you are coming from, in having to use midifiles to generate the Roland styles and converting them to work in the korg...

But the problem is that I sold my G1000, when I upgraded to the Pa2x, but I have all my Roland styles backed-up in my computer.....

So i can't make midifiles using the Roland...

anyhow.. thanks a lot for your help...

Appreciated :)

hi,
if you own styleworks universal, you could try loading the style into the Roland module version of the program and export as a midifile. Don't know if this would alter any of the drums, as I said previously, styleworks sometimes does some strange stuff.
