Sequence/sample mode; playing in realtime with band

Post by Jacon92 »

So I just bought the M3 used....Loving it so far! :D

Question though....I´m quite new to this whole thing with sequencing and sampling, but want to learn how to use it.
However, I´m not quite sure about the difference between sequencing and sampling; what is the exact difference?

Also, sometimes in a live setting, it would be very useful to have an extra pair of hands to play with to fill out the sound. Unfortunately, that´s going to be difficult to achieve.
So the thing is; let´s say for instance, since I play in a prog rock band, I´d like to in one song have a pad with some string arrangements on top, playing in the background while I play a lead solo on top, all on the M3.
Is it possible to make a sequence/sample (?) of the pad/string sound which I trigger on the M3, and have this going in realtime while I only actually play the lead on the keyboard?

And if so, where should I start with building the sample; in sequence mode, and then trigger it from the "sample area" on the M3? Or something else?

I hope I didn´t explain too badly, and that someone could please help...
I know that I probably should have read some other posts that deal with this, but since i didn´t exactly know what I was "looking for", I couldn´t really find anything....So please, could you help a hopeful rookie to learn! :)

Hey Mate,
Welcome to Korg Forums! :)

As for your question;
Sequencer is 16 midi tracks that you can use to record and create your own track with.
Sampling is taking an external sound (cd, wav, guitar, voice...etc) and sampling it on to keys and than playing those keys into a Sequencer for recording.
For what you want, use sequencer. Put the Programs/sounds you want in the Midi tracks and you can record what ever you want. and than play that back, change midi tracks where you have the Piano, and play that real time.
Also Combi's could be useful to you but those are bit complicated for just starting out.
Cheers mate and I know you'll enjoy your M3
