3rd party power supply anybody?

Post by paulmpianist »

I have my Korg PA500 in my studio with all the cables in duplicate (L,R audio out, pedal, ) in a bag in the car. that way all I have to do is pull the cables out of the back of the keyboard and load the keyboard into my gigbag (rigid skiboard bag with wheels and big pockets and straps and handles.. works great!!) and load it into the car. i don't have to go through a checklist to make sure I have everything.
But unlike the PA80 which just uses a computer cord like all the other keyboards, I have to mess with making sure I have the power supply. If I forget to take that along, then I bring the mixer/amp for nothing and just have to play their piano.
So so the power supply says 12 3.5 amp output. Also on the original Korg one it says "switching power supply." I have a few pieces of gear that I used aftermarket power supplies. Anybody have any comments on this? Also I found a couple of different ones on ebay one says "center negative" the other says "center positive." looks like about 21 bucks for a new one.
does the PA800 have it built in so you just use a computer cord?
thanks
paul

Paul,

If you use a non-Korg power supply you will invalidate any remaining warranty. If you need a "spare", then it would be advisable to order a Korg one from a Korg distributor.

In one time I lost a power supply for a PA588, probably the same that the PA500 use, and I order one from Korg. I have to wait 2 MONTHS!!!!!

In the mean time I try different 3rd party ones, none work.

Order one from Korg and pray that they have it in stock.

I WILL NEVER AGAIN PURCHASE A KEYBOARD THAT DON"T USE THE REGULAR POWER CABLES!!!
