R3 USB Problems

Everytime I use the usb for midi, midi in actually, I want to use the arp for the pads/strings but the arp does not sound. Also having with any other sound as well.

I have tried to set the midi clock to ext usb, and auto. I however do not have this problem with the midi cable from my MC-808 to the R3. I have checked to make sure the midi usb is the right channel for both the R3 and my DAW.

Also the tempo is quirky when using usb or having no external input whatsoever. Again I do not have a problem with this using midi in from my MC-808.
Korg R3, Roland SH-201, Roland MC-909, Novation Mininova, Novation Impulse 49, Korg EMX, and a bunch of VSTi's
