peter m. mahr's music with OASYS
A collection of the "pedro del mar" tracks in which I used the OASYS
collaboration with Richard Courtel:

Everything started with the eight pads I am usually using to keep chord progression / ideas in mind. Most of the sounds I am using are self programmed. When I played the chords I had an idea about the pad. The „lead sound“ was clear from the beginning, it is a mix of the MS-20 solo sound and the Kirnberger flute Program. I always wanted to use the Vector Joystick in a Combi to fade between different sounds and vocals, or a choir should be one of them. Everything OASYS with the exception of Eric Persing's RMX, which contributed the percussion mix.

The idea came from Jaqueline who sang on one of the below songs already. I was tempted to give this lovely melody a try. The first recordings in new clothes were really boring .. lets be honest, terrible and even worse with no sould or feel at all. After Andreas sent me a drum track and I imported them into an already existing DPS24 project where only the dry vocals survived. I sync’d the MPC4000 and added the Voyager Bass. Suddenly it started to have a certain groove and kick. That was the moment OASYS joined the party. I just pushed the Record+Play buttons and started playing one of my modified E-Piano sounds, live without thinking about harmonies chords at all... I just let the finger move whereever they wanted to go to. After listening I decided to have a sleep and record with fresh ears everything – more or less – „perfect“. What a disaster, „pure frustration“ nothing sounded anymore the way it sounded the evening before. So I decided to leave the „old“ version and work on that one as it sounded nice to me. For the intro I used a downpitched KARO sample and for the lead „Synth Sax – pmm“, a modified factory sound finding itself in a combination of Delay and Reverb to suppoert the pitch bending.

Named after the distance that Ebse drove from Hannover to Vienna to meet in Vienna! All sounds OASYS beside Wavedrum loop taken from Eric Persing’s RMX library. Unfortunately with clipping and some more weaknesses – responsibility „pmm“

Peter, I absolutely enjoy the sonic landscapes you create. After bathing in each tune, I am ready to solo over them. They each truly transport you. I love your experimentation, discipline and technical expertise. The Oasys is the right instrument for you. Stay creative, thank you for sharing!

have been busy the last days and therefore could not reply.
Thanks a lot to all of you for your nice feedback, which is pure motivation to me. This sometimes helps me in situations in which I am not sure..... but
that's a different story.
But there was one sentence which to me has a very special meaning.

.. if this is really the case for at least one other person, then I know that it was really worth all the work, ...the efforts, the years. Music to me is one example, but to me the best way of non verbal communication. There is no real control over it, but at the end to know that on the other end it is.. decoded.... understood, completely independent of all the theory ..... that is really.. great! Thank you.

Just listened to 2k7 - that's absolutely brilliant. Magnificent, Congratulations. I'm looking forward to your other pieces now (too bloody busy and only now getting around to listening to music posted recently - I like to listen to it properly!).
One question (please feel free not to answer this!) - how did you achieve that humanesque echo effect which appears at 00.49, 01.00, 1.29 (among other locations). I'd be very interested to hear how you achieved that sound. As said, please feel free to not divulge that technique with absolutely no offence taken.
I sincerely hope you are putting this music out far and wide. I'm not one who subscribes to giving music away free - I'd much rather package my music into a substantial enough format to attract sales (even in these times) and your music is definitely highly valuable. Phew! Awesome.

Kevin: it's basically a chopper effect (you could achieve this with a gate too). But i don't remember if i did it right on the oasys (maybe peter can check with the oasys file, the effects used on one of the samples' track) or if i prepared it externally, on my computer and reloaded it in the oasys.
And yes, peter is a very talented composer with tracks that have a real soul, it's a pleasure to "work" with him. Hopefully we will find some time to continue our collaboration.

kevin, as i said i don't remember if i did it inside the oasys or outside on my DAW and reloaded the sound in the oasys. Only peter can tell this sionce he has the oasys file. I sold my oasys 2 years and a half ago, so sometimes it's hard to remember some of its effects.
Imagine a square wave. Imagine that your voice sample is going through a lfo square wave controlling the volume of your sound: this will "slice" your sound depending on the square wave length: so it's an alternation between a zero volume sound and a high volume sound. To resume, chopper is kind of virtually slicing a sound using its volume.
you can imagine a gate too. You put sound through a gate that is closing and reopening (more or less fast)

Very nice Peter. At first i was only interested in listening to the Mod7 pieces then i read Kevin's comments about the 2k7, and im actually listening to it while i type this. Excellent work.
Now im angy again at Korg for abondoning further production on this synth. It pis..s..es me off we dont have brass and reed PM
