Mac based PadKontrol step sequencer (sekwenser)

Post by fyolnish »

Hey guys, I've been lurking here since last week when I bought my padkontrol.
I tried the ableton template sequencers posted here and on the ableton forums, but I couldn't get them to work the way I wanted to.
So.. I wrote my own.

You can download the binary / source at the bottom.

Mini readme:
Hold down [scene] to enter instrument selection view
Hold down [message] to enter pattern selection view
You can toggle velocity sensitivity by pressing [fixed velocity]
Hold down [Prog change] and turn the encoder to change the midi channel of the active instrument
Hold down the [hold] button to toggle step mutes
Hold down the [roll] button to enter copy/paste view (tap the pattern to copy, then the destination)

You can the sequencer by holding down [scene] and pressing [setting]. The sequencer will keep running, but the padkontrol will go back to being drumpads. Send Program change 0 to get back to the sequencer interface (Press [Prog Change])

To sync the clock with ableton, use IAC

This is still very much in development, so there are probably bugs.
It's also my first project to do with MIDI & MIDI Synchronization

Binary: http://localhostr.com/files/ceaa5e/sekwenser.zip
Source(Objective-C): http://localhostr.com/files/42bc3e/sekwencer.src.zip
To build the source you need BWToolkit from http://brandonwalkin.com/bwtoolkit/

Todo:
* Make the unused buttons and XY Pad transmit midi messages(xy pad does transmit on port b now though)
* Automatically switch patterns for longer beats

Update:
Adds saving/loading of layouts (list of layouts accessible in the gui)
Transmits midi CC's for all the unused buttons, The XY Pad & the knobs
..and some other stuff I can't remember off the top of my head.

How about some feedback?
