Decorating your Digital Piano?

Ok silly thread.... but relevant.

I am a pianist & lead singer in a 'credible' pop/rock band and unfortunately, I cannot afford to spend £400 a night on an attractive Grand Piano.

So- I will be gigging with a less than attractive Korg SV-1.

I was wondering if anyone had decorated their piano, perhaps by hanging material from the back to the floor? Or created any kind of wooden box stand etc? Anything to make it look like an upright or something?

Has anyone seen it done?

I just feel that a digital piano on a stand looks a bit bare!

I find it interesting to hear that you think the SV-1 is unattractive. Admittedly it is modelled after electric pianos and as such has a retro feel to it. I think it looks considerably more attractive than most of the plain black gear you get on stage. Although obviously those are more inconspicuous...

My main thoughts are to show off your Korg logo with pride!

The SV-1 is a very good looking machine as far as keyboards go, I really can't think of a better looking stage piano. The knobs, the valve, the slightly downwards facing inputs, the demure curves, that unapologetically erotic red. I'm a design lecturer when I'm not posting on nerdy forums, so trust me when I say this: dayglo or nothing.

Virtuosity: Not a silly topic at all. I had a banner professionally made with our logo and contact info on it. It hangs from velcro tabs on the back of my Pa1XPro and covers all the dangling cables, etc., plus my knobbly knees, and is a constant advertisement. If I knew how to post a picture on here, I'd put it up for all to see.

It's not that I think the SV-1 isn't pretty. In fact it is very beautiful.

My issue is that the piano is the main instrument in this pop/rock band (think a big band version of Ben Folds 5).

In my opinion, a stage piano is something which is used by session musicians or keyboardists.

A lead-piano player will normally have a grand piano.

Unfortunately, I cannot afford to hire a grand for every gig I do.

So I'm just looking to create a centre-piece for the band.

However, I am now looking at a Roland LX-10 purchase which should fit the bill. Would welcome advice re: similar pianos.

I suppose you could make an empty 'grand piano' or upright piano 'shell', with a shelf for the SV1 to go in. I've seen this done before.

If you fast forward to about a third of the way through the video, what you'll see is one of the lower end Korg pianos "dressed up" in a fake grand piano case. Pretty effective. Is this the sort of thing you're looking for?

Thanks Giner- that was a "different" video!!! :lol:

This was exactly what I was thinking.

Now that I have seen the video, I am now thinking that it is a bit of a silly idea.

I am now looking at purchasing the Roland RG-1F. It is a mini-grand shape and seems to look the part.

It is light as well, and have had a quote of £35 from a removal firm to take it to gigs and return it to my home the next day. Bargain considering I don't have to lift a finger.

HOWEVER- I would welcome suggestions re: alternative digital mini-grands.
