Kaossilator Pro question regarding industrial music

Post by Semistultus »

The last 4 days i'm doing some research on the Kaossilator Pro to see if it can be usefull for the music i am making with a friend. The style of our music leans toward a Skinny Puppy/Angelspit type of industrial. In other words; lots of weird sounds. :-)
I need an instrument that can be useful in the studio and also in a live situation. It must be able to produce sounds from Squeeky distortion to pumping basses and all kind of weird effects. I noticed the Kaossilator Pro can import audio-samples so i can feed my own sounds to it, that's promising.

The more i see on YouTube and read about the Kaossilator Pro, the more i think it can be useful to add weird industrial effects and samples to the music, specially in a live situation. It looks like a fun machine to play with. But on the other hand; the Kaossilator Pro seems to be made for d.j.'s or DnB and Hippety Hop artists. ;-) Before i'm going out to buy one i'd like to ask you, the users, the question;

Does the Kaossilator Pro fit in the type of music we make? Can it squeek rumble and distort? :-)

Kind regards,
Andre.

I haven't played on one a lot, but it can probably do most of what you want it to. I think you should run it through something though, like a KP3/miniKP/montron/guitar effects pedals. I can't help but feel like Kaossilator Pros sound a lot like Kaossilator Pros if you know what I mean.

The idea of adding a Monotron is a good one. I already heard some nice weird s**t coming out of that combo. :-)
I 'm not sure if an original Kaossilator is as good for me as the pro. Maybe in a live situation but in the studio i would like the extra's the Pro version has to offer, like building different tracks.

I think the most important thing is that i can add my own samples. That alone should make it a machine with endless possibilities. I hope. :-)

Thanx for your input, very appreciated.

It's easy to write the Kaossilator off as sort of a cheesy beat-maker. But if you're creative enough with the arpeggiator and overdubbing features, possibilities are almost endless. I would suggest running it through an effects processor if you're really looking for versatility with the instrument. I run the Kaossilator pro through the KP-3 and it works beautifully for me. Also, the Monotron is boss if you like squeaks and squeals and grumbles. I like pairing it with some super wet reverb and getting a sort of psychedelic horror movie feel. Not much functionality but it's super cheap and super fun.

I already bought the Kaossilator Pro together with an effect processor. Like you said; it's great fun and i can play with it for hours. The machine is limited in its possibilities but adding your own samples and runnig it through different modulated effects take away the limitations and suddenly you can create the weirdest sounds. :D

Good to hear! I've never regretted purchasing any kaoss product, and I'm someone who frequently experiences what you'd call buyer's remorse. The looping and sampling features on the pro add a lot of bang for the buck. Have fun!

The combo is so much fun! It forced me to make an album optimizing both the KO-Pro and the Monotron, called the Kaossilatron.

Passed through the Monotron it would do some of the weirdest distorted sound
