Heard from dealer M50 is to be replaced at NAMM?
I don't know how credible this is, but given that 2 near me have not had their stock replenished I am inclined to wait a month before getting one.

Well If its true, is strange not to see a countdown in the Korg Website, as they usually do...
Let's wait...
Let's wait...

I guess it's possible considering how they haven't put out a single OS update to fix any of the bugs since the M50-73 key came out. But it seems odd that they would replace it.
Current Korg Gear: KRONOS 88 (4GB), M50-73 (PS mod), RADIAS-73, Electribe MX, Triton Pro (MOSS, SCSI, CF, 64MB RAM), SQ-64, DVP-1, MEX-8000, MR-1, KAOSSilator, nanoKey, nanoKontrol, 3x nanoPad 2, 3x DS1H, 7x PS1, FC7 (yes Korg, NOT Yamaha).
I think it would be odd considering that it is even younger than the M3.
If a new major product did come out I expect it would be a parallel product (M3 Extreme or micro-M for example, based on previous products) rather than a replacement for a comparatively young board, especially when its flagship has yet to be replaced or updated.

And I don't see what they could do to the M3 to make it Extreme that is hardware based. I would hope they would continue to roll on with the M3 and continue to develop the M3 OS. If they came out with something huge for an OS upgrade, I'd easily pay for it. I think most of us would.X-Trade wrote:I think it would be odd considering that it is even younger than the M3.

And going back and forth like this will be tiring as Korg is VERY tight lipped about new products. We'll find out when NAMM starts. I can wait...

I think the M50 and M3 and two very solid products with no need for replacement right now. There is no breakthrough or fundamental feature that other manufacturers offer that could trigger an upgrade other than software patches. I'm not saying that Korg follows the competition, on the contrary, I've always thought of Korg as innovators. But really, have anyone of us really squeezed our boards to the last drop, so we can say I outgrew it ?

A few minor adjustments just like they did for the TEX, perhaps?McHale wrote:And I don't see what they could do to the M3 to make it Extreme that is hardware based. I can think of a few:
-Flash Sample RAM (very popular the the moment)
-ValveForce Tube Driver
-Integrate the USB Expansion Samples into the ROM
-Audio Track Recording
Doesn't matter, they won't do it.
I'm expecting to see another micro-whatever and a few nano-whatdyacallthems

Even if there were a new product announced at NAMM to replace this it would still be several months before it reached the shops.HowardK wrote:I don't know how credible this is, but given that 2 near me have not had their stock replenished I am inclined to wait a month before getting one.

I don't want to beat a dead horse
(ok, ok, I really want... poor horse... how many dead horses have been victimised on web forums!)
but I just got the long-awaited new OS for kurzweil Pc3 [a substantial improvement of the instruments' sound, not a maintenance release].
Now, that's marketing: announcing it for the NAMM11 just before the x-mas shopping begins (so to entice people to buy a soon-to-be-improved hardware)
and relasing it (free of charge) on dec 24, one month in advance.
That's how you sell things.
I am not comparing the products, I am comparing the marketing & communication strategies, and the attitude to customer relations.
[PC3's new OS had been delayed for months, before...
but that's another story

M50 replacement
One of my chord trigger buttons broke and has now fallen off inside the M50 and this shows something I think Korg will want to change as Korg’s reputation has a reason and it would be unusual to see a lasting defect in a Korg keyboard.
BTW...as I stated and suspected was the case the real M50 button switch is located at the bottom of the button, not in the center, and M50 buttons caps (all) are hinged at the top so pressing at the bottom of the buttons to work with the design will without doubt extend their life span. Used as buttons the design is fine, but not for keys to express emotion as chord trigger button are used as.
The chord buttons are the one thing Korg needs to fix while making them VSen soft buttons IMO and I think making other small improvements and giving it a new name would be good marketing so this would not surprise me. I used to expect something new every two years but that was a while ago before I reversed time to avoid getting gray hair. Don't laugh if you have gray hair and are under 60. It’s your DNA’s fault for the way you are, but it’s your fault for staying that way as well as what part of the button you press;-)
As it is, the M50 is still amazing. But I hope Korg does improve it as well as come out with another OASYS which I think has a high probability with so much R&D already paid for and computer parts so much lower in cost yet more powerful. If the M50’s become unavailable then it’s almost certain something new and cool is coming and less than month away.
John^^

Think Peace...
They did have to sacrifice a lot to make the M50 affordable. It is aimed at a specific price bracket. I guess you get what you pay for. If you wanted better quality then buy an M3.Stargazer wrote:Korg needs to address quality issues very strongly, else new keyboard will not make any sense. Nearly anything on M50 is wrong; cheap display, clacking keys, breaking buttons, bad capacitors, you name it.

Sampler Option
Would be nice for Korg to come out with new M50 type workstation in the 1000.00 range with sampler board option. Just like LE.
