RAM upgradeability and controller options
Considering the fact that the KRONOS is powered by a dual core Atom, it's likely that it uses DDR2/DDR3 for memory.
Does this mean that we can upgrade the internal RAM with for instance a Kingston 4 GB DDR2-800 memory stick?
Other question: can the knobs and sliders on the KRONOS be assigned to an external source, in other words, are they midi-programmable?

It is not yet possible now, as far as I heard.
But Korg is aware of the demand, and it should not be impossible techically.
In one word: I am conviced that an upgrade will make it possible sooner or later.
Anything else would lead to endless user demands and discussions, and I guess Korg knows well that it is far better to solve the problem than trying to ignore it.

One of the Korg engineers stated that the RAM *WAS* upgradeable. It's standard DDR2 I think.
Current Korg Gear: KRONOS 88 (4GB), M50-73 (PS mod), RADIAS-73, Electribe MX, Triton Pro (MOSS, SCSI, CF, 64MB RAM), SQ-64, DVP-1, MEX-8000, MR-1, KAOSSilator, nanoKey, nanoKontrol, 3x nanoPad 2, 3x DS1H, 7x PS1, FC7 (yes Korg, NOT Yamaha).
KORG would still need to address the extra memory with an OS update.McHale wrote:One of the Korg engineers stated that the RAM *WAS* upgradeable. It's standard DDR2 I think.
Sames as what happened with the OASYS.

RAM upgradablity is not something that could be "fixed" later.... something like that would kinda be set in stone from the factory right?
and if it can be upgraded... how much can it take?

so you're saying that even if the unit ships only supporting 2gb... that Korg could release and update later on that allows it to recognize all 4gb?EvilDragon wrote:Only software-wise. we don't know that the KRONOS doesn't support 4GB out of the box. The Korg engineer definitely said it could be upgraded. We'll probably have to wait and see...

Then again, why even bother. Why not just give the keyboard the ability to stream end user samples at a later date.
Problem solved.

now you're talking!!!! but still we'd have to have space to manipulate the samples... kinda like on the motif xf (i believe this is correct info), you have 128 MB of onboard sample RAM to manipulate your samples... but of course after you've done your editing... you have the 2GB of flash ram...Sharp wrote:Then again, why even bother. so even if we did have the ability to stream user samples from the HD, I think it would be great to have a nice amount of RAM to manipulate/edit those samples...
do you think it's safe to assume that they have plans for that later on? I mean why install a 30GB HD with only 12GB worth of data on it... what is the other 18GB worth of space for?

Even better, why not give the tools inside the Kronos, to build your own EXs from a "Sample Manager", picking from different other EXs, or from your own sample? It would be like burning a Audio CD, when you select your track and see the progression bar with the space and files.Sharp wrote:Then again, why even bother. By building your own EXs, it solve problem for small developers to build new stuff for the Kronos (respecting Korg architecture), and it will solve problem from customer samples.
Of course, a 4Gb memory update would be nice too.
