saving sounds from R3 to computer

Post by kleiny41 »

I have done this successfully a few times in the past, saving my sounds to the PC and using the R3 sound editor to modify and transfer back to the R3. I know I have to use the shift function on the R3, but I can't recall the exact set of steps for a successful transfer. I have a Audio Kontrol 1 sound card interface so I could do MIDI or USB.

I have the manual, and those instructions aren't exactly accurate. I'm missing something.

Any ideas?

THanks! Amanda

Hi Amanda,

start your sound editor and check if it has connection via USB with the R3. Open a library file from your disk or just create a new one, click the patch on the editor where you want your R3 sound (patch) to be transmitted, press the button RECEIVE on the editor and the selected patch on the R3 is transferred to the editor. To transfer from the editor to the R3, select the desired patch on the editor and press the TRANSMIT button. This patch will stay only temporarily on the R3. If you change the patch on the R3 it will get lost unless you write it on your R3 at a desired patch location with the WRITE button on your R3. Note that to be able to write on your R3 you must have disabled the "Write Protect" (or was it "Write Enable"?) option in your R3 (don't remember exactly but it is somewhere in the system settings or read in the users manual)

To save patches to your PC disk, you can save either eintire libraries (.r3l) or single patches (.r3p). To save single patches, right click the desired patch and select "save" in the menu. To load a single patch from disk, right click a (free) patch in the editor and select "open". To save or load the complete library use the File/Save or Open options in the main menu.

If you note that you can't transfer patch data between your PC and R3 then you have to check if the R3 USB drivers are active. This happens each time you connect your R3 to a different USB port.
