R3 occasionaly generates static clicks

Post by zelea2 »

I was wondering if anyone else is experiencing occasional clicks in the output of their R3s. My unit does this and I'm sure it's the R3 and not the
cables/mixer/amplifiers. I also have an M50 and the sound from M50 is perfect in the same setup.

These clicks sound like a static discharge (not very loud) and are happening only once every 30 seconds and only if I play the R3. They are a little annoying but they don't disrupt playing the music.

Has anyone else observed these clicks with their R3s? If so is there a cure for this? Should I open it and check all the ground planes?

A lot of clicks are due to how the program is designed. Change the program and the clicks go away. This happens when there are ADSR values with 0 attack and 0 release, or mono1/mono2 instead of poly mode. It can also happen when you exceed the polyphony of the engine, as the notes get cutoff before they're finished, causing a click. One of the first things I do with any synth is to go through all the voices and get rid of the 0 attack and release values. Just setting them to 2-5 will get rid of the click but keep the basic character of the sound the same.
