MIDI-in device in M3 Editor

Post by karmathanever »

Hi guys

Sorry but I may be trying to do something stupid here......
I have
  • an M3M
    Apple iMac
M-Audio Oxygen USB MIDI controller keyboard (USB connection only)
I have the M3M and M3 Editor working together fine.
I wanted (am hoping) to use my M-audio kbd as an input MIDI device to use whilst the M3M is connected to the editor.
So I
  • connect my M3M to the Mac
connect my M-audio to the Mac
    power them on
    Run M3 editor
M3M is fine and the M3 Editor sees the M-audio as an input device in MIDI preferences
The problem is I cannot seem to get the M-Audio send any notes.
The M-audio works fine with Logic Pro on its own so I know it is working OK.

What I am trying to do is as per the diagram half way down the right-hand column on page 30 of the M3 Operation Guide.

Is this possible or have I misunderstood things?

Many thanks

Did you check midi channel of signals sent by M-Audio?

Which mode is M3M in? Program/Combination/Sequencer?

Thanks for your response Apresmidi2010.

Yes I did match the MIDI (global channel)
Is the mode of the M3 relevant? - I basically want to use the M-audio to play the M3m but connected to the editor - so I would (hoped) like it to be in prog or combi modes (I tried both).

Just not sure if I can actually get this to work - the diagram in the OP guide "implies" that I can. The Editor is set to use the M-audio as a MIDI in device but I just can't seem to get those signals from the m-audio to the editor.

Thanks for your help

Hi all

Sorry to be a pain and bump this but I am about to throw out my "USB only" MIDI controller and replace it with a MIDI controller with regular MIDI out port.

I tried many times to get this to work but just cannot.

Using M3 editor with M3M - works fine
Using M3 editor with USB MIDI controller as input device (NO M3M attached) works fine - controller sends notes etc and received by the editor.

Using M3 editor with M3M attached and USB MIDI controller does not work - the editor does not receive anything from the USB MIDI controller even though it is clearly configured and seen as a MIDI input device.

The manual implies that this should work (unless I am misunderstanding this totally).

Many thanks for any help - by Monday I think I will have gotten rid of the USB MIDI controller and will replace it.

Cheers
