Hi, I have a problem.
I want to use my TR as a controller for a Roland XV-5050 module.
But I can't get it work, I want to change Performance in XV-5050 with my TR, but nothing happens when I change sound (program and combi) in my TR. When entering GM-mode it changes in GM-bank in the 5050, but very strange. If i change sound in this order on my TR: 1,2,3,4 it changes and set the sounds something like this in the XV-5050 GM-bank: 1,4,7,9
I send at Ch.1 and recieve at Ch.1 in the module. I downloaded MIDIOX and it seems like the TR is sending Patch-change as the message I wanna control the XV-5050 Performance 'switch' with.
Edit: Now it seems like it has something to do with my Korg TR, they told me in Roland-forum that I only need to set the "Control Channel" in "MIDI/USB"-category to 1-16, and make shure I've the same channel on my keyboard, but it still doesnt work... :-/

Korg TR was not born to be a masterkeyboard "per se", expecially when hooked to a Roland module.
First of all you must study the midi implementation of XV-5050 and find out what are the needed CCs to recall the desired patches, then you can use Combination mode to recall them.
When you edit a Combination, it's made up of 8 Programs that can be either on the basic MIDI channel or on another one.
The Program Change section inside Combination parameters can accept three different settings: internal, another one I don't remind and external.
You must use the latter and set the corresponding CC 0 and CC 32 value followed by a program change.
Thus, you'll use an unused Program of that Combination that will be:
- set on a different MIDI channel and corresponding the the XV-5050 one
- set on "external"
- containing the CC LSB and MSB and a program change.
have a look to the MIdi section/PatchList of your XV-5050

Life without music would be a mistake
Hi
maybe you preffer the sounds on your XV-5050 but its an absolute waste of money to use a TR (or any other synth) to control other.
not only becoz you are losing an instrument, becoz a synth is designed to work with its own patches and CCs, maybe would be better with a same branded synth, but it's also a waste of money
the best way to go its to buy a MIDI Controller (or trade if you dislike the TR). it would be a lot easier to control the module and you'll have a lot more of knobs, sliders and any kind of controls for less money than a synth
if you really dont have intentions tu buy/trade a MIDI Controller or do u really wanna use the TR be prepared to read both manuals and work like an ant xD

Nice things to do before asking:
Read the manual, search on the Forum and internet and try by yourself.
You will learn a lot more and faster.
