Noob needs help with R3 MIDI setup!

Post by TheNightman77 »

Hi Everybody,

First post here, with what is likely basic question that I've been struggling with for waaaay too long at this point. I have a MOTU828mk2 plugged into my computer via firewire where I'm running Digital Performer as my DAW software. I have 3 MIDI cables, and can successfully record both MIDI and audio from my R3 to my computer. I am in desperate need of some good drum sounds for my studio, so I am attempting to access a Yamaha DTXpressIII drum module's sound bank with the R3 in order to record some MIDI beats. Image[/url]

Midi Thru is just a repeater of Midi In, nothing done on the R3 will change the output of Midi Thru.

I typed a lot of instructions then realized that you will probably run into Midi loops and other things that way. If you move the cable from Midi Thru to Midi Out on the R3 and both of them are on the same Midi channel you will be able to play both the R3 sounds and the drum module sounds from the R3 keyboard.
