Brass with Breath Control Example

Post by burningbusch »

There's sone talk of the Kronos brass sucking. I beg to differ.

Examples done with the same patch (MINE!), played in realtime with breath control, Band-in-a-box backing tracks.

Very nice indeed!

Hard to find a breath controller these days. I don't think Yamaha's making them anymore.

Nice!

Which breath controller do you use?
And did you use factory patches or did a combi of your own?

I'm using the Yamaha BC3a. Fortunately I have a few of them around. If people have one of the Yamaha VL products you can use it. Just plug the BC3 into the VL1/VL1m and then MIDI out to the Kronos. I'm not sure if the VL70m does this as well. Otherwise you can use the MIDI Solutions Breath Controller Device.

The Kronos works VERY well with BC.

I used one of the Brass combis as my template and went about creating breath control versions of the various programs, but then changed things around to my liking.

Thanks,

Busch.

It's really beautiful. Wonder if they sound as good without a BC.

Nobody said that the Brass sucks....
We were talking about the solo Sax sounds....they are not at the "Kronos" level....

I miss my old monophonic Yamaha CS-01 with breath controller. Really fun. I could hum/growl/sing into it and change the harmonic overtones of the sound!

The MS works perfectly with BC3A and any Korg Workstation,
i've been using them since the Trinity.

I still have mine. My Pro One is even more sensitive. Great fun keyboards!

^ still have my CS-01 as well with the crusty old Breath Controller (still works!) but the modulation doesn't work any more. Maybe I need to find a synth-tech-head in the area who can fix it (needs a new chip?)

Do the newer Breath Controllers allow for humming/singing in addition to tonguing and blowing?

The BC3A is discontinued

No need to ma make this fine solution for the others.. :(

I wonder if KURZWEIL intend to make one, as all their keyboards are already equiped.

The newer breath controllers are better than the bc1 but it is the analog synth that is fast. MIDI is not as fast at all.
