NanoKontrol2's input language

Post by abt.abdn »

Hi, I tried using the NanoKONTROL2 in Ableton Live and I noticed when you hit solo on one lane, the solo light turned on and all the rest of the mute buttons turned on and stayed on. I'm wanting to add some light functionality to Reason, so how does Ableton communicate to turn on the light? I tried looking into it with Midi Monitor but I didn't learn anything.

Also, is there any sort of list somewhere with details describing other possible functions to input into the NanoKontrol2 or possibly the NanoKontrol1?

Hi,

the light functionality works thru the Mackie Universal Control, which basically consists of Note On messages, some CCs and some clever Sysex for the lights. However, it is fairly complicated in particular the Sysex part and I have not yet seen a full documentation of the protocol.

I posted in another thread how it works in Live (in the Live mode):

It consists in a couple of pretty long Phyton Files you could take as a reference but it is not streightforward.
Since Reason is not supported other than in the CC mode, I fear that it will not be possible to use the lights goverened from Reason itself. But maybe I am wrong.

If Sysex has anything to do with the control of lights, it won't happen in Live, as Live doesn't communicate with Sysex at all.
