M1 MSC-04 - MPC-04 Memory Card Question, Please

Post by Koggie »

I just received the orchestra 1 card set and was wondering if when I load them will it delete or remove any of the factory sounds in the m1ex. Do you just insert the cards and select a new bank and that's it? Thank you.

Hit the 'card' button, instead of I-xx you'll have C-xx on display for 'card' bank. I believe you don't have to copy over anything from the card, but doing a sysex backup beforehand via MIDI will not hurt (just in case I'm wrong :D). Of course, if you do copy something, then the corresponding internal memory location will be overwritten.

Thank you synthjoe for your reply. I placed both cards in the slots and selected "card" on the front panel. It brought up bank c and all the patches seemed to be there by name. Funny thing is that as I scrolled through each one testing them, it seems that some of the patches did not sound right. Some of the organs and strings sounded weird. What do you think I am doing wrong?

No idea, nothing specific is needed, so you should be fine just doing what you did. Maybe the MSC card is damaged(?), but without having an exact definition for 'weird' it'd be har do tell... :)

Maybe you can post a clip on soundcloud or similar and we can have a go at guessing. Or you can try editing one of the internal sounds and change the waveform to those beyond 99, that should allow you to audition the contents of the MSC card alone.

You might want to check that the MSC card is fully inserted. If the slot hasn't gotten much use, the contacts can be fairly stiff and sometimes require a bit more pressure than expected. You could also try removing and reinserting the card to "wipe" the contacts, in case something isn't making a good connection.
