SIMM Memory for LE / TR61

Post by Alexx_best »

Hi, All. I have a chance to buy SIMM Memory (2 x 32 Mb) that was used in Triton Studio. Anybody knows, are these SIMMs fully compatible with LE/TR61???? Thanx a lot, Alexx.

It should work fine, but the Triton LE is quite fussy about the types of RAM it is willing to accept. From memory the DRAM requirements between the LE and Studio were identical, so it shouldn't be an issue.

If you're unsure, the two key things to check for are if they have an access time of 65ns or less, and have 11-bit addressing. These factors can be determined by looking at the number of chips on the board and also the model numbers. Feel free to post any details here and I will check it out.

I am wondering about what kind of memory to get for a TR.

Korg says:

"16 or 32 MB 72-pin SIMM modules that are either Fast Page or EDO-compatible, with an access speed of 60 nsec or faster, 11-bit addressing required."

Questions:

Is it possible to use higher capacity SIMMs? When the TR came out, 32 was the largest available, but now there are also 64 and 128 mb modules. I wonder if they can be installed, and if the TR will recognize the additional memory if it's there.

Also, does it matter whether I use parity or non-parity RAM?

No, the Triton/TR can only handle up to 2 x 32 MB.
