RADIAS waveform stack

Post by lame_lei »

A lot of internet records about the RADIAS say this:
The Radias has the ability to stack up to five types of waveforms in Oscillator #1, while using only one voice of polyphony. In Unison mode, you can stack five additional waveforms, while using more polyphony. With this function, you can create some awesome super waveforms-the overall result can contain up to 25 detuned waveforms.
Can somebody please tell me how to do this? I have my Radias for about a half year and I can't find it...

this is the 'unison' feature on Oscillator 1.

It doesn't allow you to stack 'different' waveforms, but what it does is run five 'virtual' oscillators within that one oscillator without using up any additional volume.

You can set the detune amount with control knob 1 and the start phase distribution with knob 2.
These are not continuous-phase like they are normally - they start from zero every time you hit a note. this allows you to get plucked sounds and other strong attacks. For example I use this on a sine or triangle wave with a low detune value (and sent through the 'pickup' waveshaper) in order to simulate an electric piano or plucked string sound.

turning the phase distribution up will produce a softer attack and be more like a detuned group of oscillators - I tend to find that the 66-75% position works best for normal detuned sounds.

A typical application of this would be using a sawtooth.

you could also combine this with the voice unison feature (different to osc1 unison) which does up up polyphony to create a truly massive sound.
