Is this a good deal?

Post by Manny123 »

Hey guys
how are you all doing? I've been away for awhile but I have an important query to put to all of you PA enthusiasts 0.0 ! So here goes:

I used to own a PA60 but due to my stupidity it got broken....I loved the PA60 and was devastated when I lost it. I researched the PA800 without any hope of a future purchase due to my limited finances. Just recently my finances have changed and a 'Used' PA800 has come on the market... here are my questions and concerns.

1)My local music store will have to order it from another one of their stores in Houston, Texas - that is very, very far from Binghamton, New York having not ever done this before do you guys think it is a reasonable presumption that it will arrive 'OK ' intact and pristine just like it was shipped?

2) Although I think(think being the operative word) I'm getting a good deal on this keyboard($1900) + shipping and handling it doesn't come with a manual;software or any other helpful accessories like a 'CD's' or a 'DVD's' other than the 'Power Supply' it is just the Keyboard...

3) So what do you guys think? Is this a good deal or not... Having told you that I absolutely loved the PA60 when I owned it and it was great when I was jamming or when I played in a band the summer of 2010, or even when I was just playing for my own satisfaction, just for me - I have to move quick on this deal if I want the keyboard as their is only one in the store that came in recently as a 'Trade-in'....your help as always is much appreciated as you al know I am still technologically impaired, but that hasn't stopped me from having a great time as a musician and performer

1. I don't think shipping will be a problem. Most of these instruments travel half way around the world before they arrive in your store; if properly packaged (original packaging!) there will be no problem. I assume your warranty goes with your local store (make sure it does!) so no risk there. You can go back to the store when your instrument shows any flaws or failures.

2. The manual is full text online available, so I wouldn't bother about it. The same goes for the software (OS, styles) you need. CD's and DVD's are 'old school' now. ;-) 'Just the keyboard' is quite a lot in this case, PA800 is really really a great, professional board.

3. I'm not familiar with US prices for PA800, but 1900 dollar for a good as new PA800 sounds reasonable to me. In Europe it's sold for about 1600 euro. But... prices for used PA800 are going down quite rapidly. (due to the new PA3X).

So my advice: If you find the price OK, order it right after you made an agreement about the warranty with your local store.

If you still have doubts, shop around in your neighborhood and try to find a PA800 there, that you can pick up right away. Negotiate about the price: don't pay more than the 1900 bucks offered elsewhere.

If you want to pay less, maybe look at PA500; this is also great (but without sampler and vocal harmonizer).

Good luck!

Hi Manny,

I agree with Frans here. Personally I owed the PA50 and PA80, virtually identical to the PA60 and can understand your enthusiasm.
Last year I purchased the PA500 but managed to move on to the PA800 a couple of months ago. A great keyboard with tremendous potential. Though I concur with what Frans says my only question would be " How old is this used keyboard, in other words how used is used ? If it were more than two years old I would be hesitant to pay 1900 bucks for it though.......

Good luck

You're absolutely right, John.
It can be a bit tricky; will traders be honoust about it?
And even then, there can be a big difference:
A 2-year old keyboard that was played incidentally in someone's living room versus one carried around from gig to gig...

Make sure to get at least one year full warranty. If the shop doesn't want to do that, look elsewhere.
As mentioned in my previous post, there will be more used PA800's available in the time to come, with (sharp) falling prices.
