(another) Unusual Bug - Zero4

Post by Saucer »

Hi guys,

I ordered my zero4 brand spanking new just over a year ago. I've really enjoyed it, honestly believe it's the most feature loaded mixer, etc etc.

I've had two serious issues with the thing now, however:

1 - Occasionally, the fancy startup sequence never ends and it needs to be powered off and on again to work. This apparently isn't that uncommon and I never found it too worrying.

2 - Every once in a while since I got the thing (say, 1/20th of the time), it will power on, initialize, and then go into this glitched out mode where it neither receives nor sends any audio signals. The bpm counter works, selector knobs change backlight colours, etc, but no functionality.

The only exception is a strange noise which resembles a loop cut to 1/256 time which plays endlessly through the left cue channel. It's affected by cue volume, and turning other rotaries/faders seems to slightly alter the noise.

Anyway, re-initializing (cue split+gate play on startup), updating firmware, etc. does not seem to work. For a while I was convinced that the wiring in my house was shoddily done and it was confusing the power supply in the unit. I'm really not sure of the cause since it seems to come and go randomly. It could work fine again after one restart, or the problem could persist after 50 restarts. Not reproducible at all.

I noticed the issue very rarely during my first year of owning the thing. It's only now (~1 month past warranty) that it seems to be becoming more frequent.

I'll obviously be complaining to Korg come tomorrow, but I figured I'd check if anyone's seen this before (could only find one mention of it online, on this forum) http://www.korgforums.com/forum/phpBB2/ ... 1fb3479f76.

If you own a zero mixer and you see ANYTHING funky with the hardware. Anything funky at all really, don't make my mistake. Send it to Korg while you can!

Have a better day than me everyone!
