Korg M3 No sound

Post by expertatwork »

I have had this board for over a year now and all of a sudden I go to turn it on and play it and nothing comes out. There is no sound!!!! When I touch the keys the velocity meters arent moving. It doesnt matter whether I am using my headphones or my amplifier. Did I touch something wrong? PLEASE HELP!!! I have a gig to rehearse for Saturday.

No Sound

This could be a number of things. I don't have my M3 yet but since you are not getting any response when playing keys the first thing I would check is to make sure the module is connected firmly to the keyboard.

The M3 "module" is the brain... the part with the screen, sliders and switches.

When you turn on the M3, does the screen light up? Definitely check under the module (you will need to raise it first) to make sure it is connected to the keyboard.

Okay I called Korg Tech Support and they said that I need to do the following:

go to global settings
Press page select
Click Midi
click local controls
there will be a button that should be red if its not, press it and it will turn red
Click the top tab
click write global
Click ok

Thanks for the response!!!!!!

If you don't see the velocity meter on the COMBI, it may be that the cable to keybed has been disconnected. Check that.

Also, you can confirm if there's a problem with the keybed by doing all of the following:
- Try using the sensitive PADS and see if you get sound and if the velocity meters react on COMBI mode.
- Calibrate the Aftertouch (GLOBAL mode)
- Record something on the SEQUENCER and see if you're actually getting note on/off events.

What the Korg Tech said, didnt work. The local controls were already turned on. I have tried using the sensitive pads, going in the sequencer, but nothing is giving me sound. The cable in the keybed is connected but it does look as it may be broken or fragile. Where can I get another one from?

even if the chord is messed up, the pads should give you sound. I'd do a factory reset and see what happens...

Manuals and documentation are here for the M3:

(Click DOCUMENTATION)

I'm surprised the former owner of your M3 didn't include the manuals.
