Saving not working?

Post by Dniss »

Work all evening yesterday, tweeked some program, recorded a song on the fly.

Did the "Write Program" to keep the modified program. Per page 146 in the param guide, this is the way to ensure they won't be lost.

Just to be on the safe side, went to disk, created a sub-directory on my thumb stick, opened it, saved .pcg, saved .seq, I could see the files afterward with the name I had given, I even noticed the size cause I was gauging how much space I had left.

Turned it off, went to bed.

Turned it back on about an hour ago, not only the prgm wasn't saved, but none of the files are there. Not even the directory I created.

I have to admit I'm a little pissed off, I have no clue what happened.

Sorry but I had to vent.

To verify, go to a program, edit it, rename it while choosing write program wait about 15 seconds, and then turn the machine off.

Then turn it back on to see if it has been saved.

Will try again tonight. I did rename it yesterday, just so I could spot it quickly in the banks. I added my name next to it in brackets. Won't get into any major work this time around, that's for sure.

It's loosing the files that really gets to me. I could see the darn files. WTF happened?

I never remove the thumb stick and I did use a space in the name like "MYFILES I".

There's no files dated from yesterday on neither drives...

I'm still very upset about all this. I thought I took extra precautions NOT TO LOSE something very unique.

Each time i usually do 3 BackUps which actually sucks on time and its annoying.
I save on the Internal HD, on a USB Stick and then the Stick goes to my PC.

Good advice, I'll start doing that from now on.

stupid question I know, but I'm shure you would have checked the write protect options in global set to off? then save, I think thats correct. Wont save anything after power off, if protect is on.

After reading this I felt very stupid because I didn't think of that. And I'll tell you why: Right after doing a Write Program, like michelkeijzers mentionned, I didn't get any error message.

Also I changed the name to something else and it did show the new name in the slot.

I just checked and protect apprears to be ticked off by default anyway.

I tried again yesterday and it all worked. The new prgm was saved and the files are on the USB stick.

Save your file to a third location people (like a laptop). If it happened to me, it's bound to happen to someone else eventually.

I was going to suggest this or double-checking on the internal HDD that it didn't accidentally get saved internally. That's really good to know, though, that it's an issue with a message not being raised when attempting to save with protect turned on.

@Danatkorg: a) is this planned behavior or a bug? b) is it too late to request this be changed in OS 1.5?

Cheers and thanks!

Trust me I went to every single directory on both drives. Like I said I did see the files getting created as I was saving them. I did save a few times afterward too. The last thing I remember doing is "Save .pcg and .seq" command.

I know most people will think it's a user error. But I saw the files and the newly created directory, just to find them gone the next day.

Perhaps my thumb stick is somehow fautly, rest assure I will keep a close eye on it from now on.

PS I have a Korg TE, so without being an expert, I know my way around files and save feature. Kronos is very similar.

I've spent a little time today looking into this. Everything seems to work correctly, which I guess would be an additional option (c):

* error messages are shown appropriately when trying to Write with memory protect enabled
* memory protects are all disabled by default (e.g. if they're on, the user has made that change)
* When memory protect for the internal drive is enabled, Save commands are disabled for the internal drive only. Saving to external USB drives still works (as expected).

As a side point, I would discourage using USB flash drives as primary storage devices, on any platform (not just the KRONOS, but also Mac, Windows, etc.). Use flash drives for transporting files, but not as work drives; they're just too vulnerable and prone to damage. When saving files on the KRONOS, save to the internal drive first (or, alternatively, to a USB device other than a flash drive).
