Hi Reuben,,thanks for the the in put,I will have to call them monday.have you ever opened a pa1x? they have a service manual for the pa1x I will get that too.j/p

I've opened mine a few times to replace worn contact strips and once to replace my Floppy drive with a USB emulator. I don't know if the layout is the same with the Pa1x and the Pa1xpro, With the pro the recessed screws on the underside hold in the keybed. If you undo the 16 screws the keybed slides out but there are also two sets of wires you need to carefully pry up and off to completely release the whole keybed. The replacement of the keys will be pretty straight forward. The other screws hold the whole case shut so if removed the whole case swings open on hinges at the rear. You also need to undo 2 screws at the rear for this to open. There are also a couple of smaller screws underneath that you don't need to undo.) This is possibly another way to access the keys but I have not used this method.
I've found the best way to work on it is to put it on the floor (carpet or mat) with the back panel (rear jacks) down and wedge two large pillows (lounge back rests?) either side and lean the underside towards you to undo the underside screws.

Hi reuben,, If I turn it upside down, start at the middle screw under the key bed,and take out 8 screws to the left, and 8 screws to the right, will the keyboard come out ? The keys broke off about half way back they still play so I think the pads must be ok ?are the keys held on with screws ? are the 2 wires attached to the key board ? thanks a lot j/p

Hi Jim,
Yes, with the with the 16 screws removed the keybed will slide out but there will still be two sets of wires attached. The wires should be long enough to enable you to slide it out far enough to remove them before taking out the keybed entirely. I can't remember exactly how the individual keys are held in place but I do remember they looked simple to replace. You might need to take off the contact board near the broken keys (don't worry they unscrew and come off easily) for access but its not complicated. It will be obvious once the keybed if out. The only tricky bit is being careful with the wires.

Hi john I think the pa1x is dif,than the pro.I have about 15 screws around
the outside lip.and 3sets of screws on the back side 2up and dowd,2up and down,2 up and down,,if I just pull them out will the ket board come out ?and I do not have to take out all the ones around the lip?I took my pa80 apart and replaced the speakers and the joy stick. I also went to parts and parts the are going to try to order the keys,for me.I won't know untill wed. thanks again j/p

Hi again John, I got the pa1x split,you need to take out every single screw
on the keyboard even all the little ones around the in puts and out puts and the power button and plug framing then it will lift up and off,I need to get some help,now so that I can disconnect all the upper to lower wiring.
I was able to get a E key I still need a D key.I will keep you posted,,jim
