To Korg From Us..New Black SV1
Flabbergasted,
after keeping a general eye on this forum since I bought my much loved SV1 a couple of years ago, it seems that most members of this forum have given up on Korg and the SV1.....quite rightly may I add, lack of support and niggling problems like that bloody volume on the amp sim, Korg showing that you can split the keyboard but only on their terms and silence on any issue certainly on this forum for a long while leaves most owners I guess either selling on their board or accepting its faults and loving it for what it is.
And now this!!...it seems Korg have not given up on this potential modern classic, at all, and are releasing a spanking brand old and un revamped model in a not so sexy matt black and limited edition reverse key version to boot.
In my book that means they still believe there is life and a market for this line. And where there is life there is hope. A new customer base for old support surely will not do. There must be someone somewhere at Korg who reads this forum and so now more so than ever, it is time to address some of the annoying little issues that have frustrated so many users of this fine instrument.
Any new purchaser of a Korg SV1 will eventually come across this forum and I would like this thread to become the start of a message to Korg to make them realise that we as owners want to believe in this instrument as much as they seem to show they finally do.
I,m sure there are other owners new and old who want to see the creases ironed out of this fabulous instrument but a dead forum will not help the cause. A lively and constructive thread , hopefully with input from Korg, maybe some soundset attachments from owners, will assist new and potential customers no end let alone the benefits of 'mixing it up' to existing users.
Korg it seems have decided there is life in this product and I sincerely hope they support their decision. In the same sense we all thought we were buying something a little bit special so surely its up to us as owners to make it.
Please add constructively.

Just the press release so far, but as you say, it's an indication that Korg have not given up on the instrument, and may even provide some new software for us SV-1 owners.
Glad I got the "old" coloured one, though
althought the reverse keys one is quite nice...

Yes,its seriously tempting me now to get a second SV1,I originally bought it for my son to practise on but I've grown really fond of it for its immediacy and what you see is what you get functionality,love this reverse key model gives me an excuse to get the Ltd Edition for myself.ShaunKorg wrote:Damn. You are wrong. Many keyboards have had a reverse color scheme. Heck, even some 17th century harpsichords had a reverse color scheme.ShaunKorg wrote:Why in the heck do keyboards always have white natura/ black flat keys anyway?
After centuries of making keyboard instruments only Korg and Vox can think of changing it up a little?

Ok so we got a nice pic of the reverse key thanks for that oy5t3h,
so thought it was time for one of the new all black number;

Here's also a link to Korgs website where there is a few more pics;
http://www.korg.co.uk/products/digital_pianos/sv-1/
and to quote Korg themselves;
In addition, the Editor/Librarian software allows each of the 36 sounds and the eight Favorites to be programmed and saved individually. This points the way to users sharing and swapping their favorite settings, and for Korg to supply more sounds in the future.
If anyone could help out on the last time there was a software update or any new soundpacks that would be great....I know it was a loooonnnggg time ago!
As for FransT asking what's changed under the hood....as far as the press releases go.....absolutely nothing so far.
Like I said in my first post this is why some form of update is needed from Korg even to iron out the common flaws let alone new soundpacks for the benefit of new users or potential buyers coming and reading forums like this before they purchase.

The new black SV-1 is stealthy - it almost defies being photographed. If they had put the reverse keys on the black SV-1, it would be invisible. I like the red/reverse model better, but I have no plans to upgrade from my current red SV-1 73.
There is one improvement I would like to see Korg make to the SV-1's OS: I would like to have multiple banks of Favorites rather than just one. Please?

Dang.. That reverse key model is awesome. I really hope this prompts them to jump back into the software on this thing and fix some real issues that were just plain ignored. Just to repeat...
crazy over drive in organ amp sim
Less crazy, but still not nice, over drive in all other amp sims.
random blinking lights (very quick and not that often, but seriously... whats this about)
LET US MAKE OUR OWN SPLITS! I don't see how this could be difficult at all. Even on the keybaord itself; but at least let us do it in the editor.
With all of this said. I am happy to see its not an SV-2, but some new sv-1's with a new face. If they're making another push to sell, they must expect new customers who will run into the same issues.

YESPLEASEMORETHANKYOU!
I love my SV-1, it's the center piece of my entire home studio and my favorite go-to songwriting board. It's perfect, uncomplicated for that task...
BUT that said, YES, please Korg, let us do splits, fix amp issues!

Personally I don't see the logic in the reverse keys. To my knowledge reverse keys were used on a few organs in the 60's and some Baroque period keyboards like harpsichords. Being that the SV is touted as a "Stage Piano" and it's strengths are in the Rhodes sounds, the reverse keys don't seem to make sense. Especially on a weighted keybed. If the SV was primarily an organ based keyboard with non weighted keys it would fly. But on a weighted stage piano, seems like more of a gimmick to target "limited edition" minded buyers. I like the original SV design. The black is no great shakes.

Speaking of that, back in the summer or so, I had thought about selling my SV-1. I know sacrilege! But I came to my senses thanks to a potential buyer that contacted me through craigslist.
He is a 20 something guy that is in a well liked original band around here called "Free Micah". He really wanted the 73 key version. He debated about whether to buy mine or not.
Eventually he decided to just buy the 73 new and urged me to keep mine as he thought the SV-1 was the only keyboard on the market that has a soul!
I spoke with him earlier this month to see if he was happy. He wrote back that he LOOOOOOOOVVVVVVVVEEEEEEEDDDDDD his SV-1 and you'd have to pry it from his dead cold hands! Said he gets tons of complements on it from fellow musicians and audience members alike. I told him of our wishes here for the board and told him to tell as many people about it as he can.
Viva la SV-1!
