Time for an OS / Soundware update?

Post by Aidan Zammit »

With the release of the new SV1 pianos I am keeping my fingers crossed for an OS and soundware update.

I love my SV1 and have performed with it extensively, but these are some issues I would love to see resolved:

1) Changing programs sends out a number of controller messages: including cc121 and a full 127 on cc7. I control some external sounds over midi and their volume obviously shoots up to maximum each time I change a patch on the SV1. There really should be some way to disable the sending of controller messages when you switch programs.

2) How about a setting to change the 2nd layer volume with the controller pedal? That would make the piano-pad programs much more usable.

3) Parameters such as attack, release and cutoff frequency can actually be altered in real-time using midi CC from an external source. How about giving us the possibility of storing the altered sounds? Sometimes I need to tweak the release to get the right sound - for now I can't do that on the SV1.

4) With reference to the previous point, why not improve the editor and let power users alter and store all the sound parameters? Which sample rom is used in a sound? We can't even SEE that in the editor, let alone change it. We can't choose the keyboard split note in split programs. Why should the core parameters be inaccessible?

Best regards to all,
Aidan Zammit

Not that I'd like to slander Korg as I think they make great product,

But when I mentioned my frustrations for a lack of an update or any communication from Korg to their customers, their response was that "I might still be able to get a refund depending where I purchased"

So don't get your hopes up. AFAIC, Korg is finished with this product, and will not be investing any more time money or effort into it.

(Food for thought, reverse key SV1 came as no surprise after I had noticed the Reverse keys in photos in the editor... I venture a bet that both soundpacks were installed on KorgSV1 prior to it's launch as well. Tricky tricky Korg.)
I have gear - I think.

I just checked,

Yes - it's still there.

I just bought a Fender Mustang III. Never liked modeling amps before but this one has changed my mind. BUT MORESO than the amp is the FUSE community that Fender has managed to create. A whole website that works with the editor software, a website that allows you to upload your favorite patches for free download by any member. Lots of great stuff out there. They are updating the software and firmware regularly. They also communicate with their customers via their forum (Thanks Loren Smith, head of the Mustang amp department!). I've always loved Fender but moreso now and companies like Korg should really pay attention to how it's supposed to be done! We're all very internet and computer savvy now, they need to step up!
Inspired by my Roland Jupiter 80 and SV-1 73, Fender Strats, Teles and Fender Amps, Taylor Acoustic. I am also an avid Ukulele player!
