A couple of BUGS for us Middle Eastern Musicians.
Hello everyone, my name is Jack, and this is my first post in the Korg Forums, I'm happy to now be a member!
I bought the Kronos over the weekend and I love it, but there are a couple of things holding me and many others back from actually being able to use it on stage right now. I came from having a Triton Extreme as a solo keyboard and for a lot of us middle eastern musicians, the most important thing in a keyboard is the ability to use AND transpose User Scales for the tunings in our music. There are a couple of bugs, one that nedim stated already which is....
#1 - When you are using a User Scale, and have in the midi options scale set to POST instead of PRE, when you transpose the scale, the tunings are NOT supposed to move...but in the Kronos, either way, PRE or POST, the tunings do not stay, they move too...
#2 - a lot of us use a external midi scale box made by a friend from Kelfar Technologies, in the triton series, his box would alter the USER scale on the fly, which worked perfectly, but in the kronos, i guess he has no way to access the GLOBAL USER SCALE via midi in from his box, instead he found a work around, which u have to program every sound's AMS to Poly Aftertouch with a value of -.50..this works, but not 100%, whenever you use a sound in Mono Legato mode, the detuned note loses tuning when held down and played again...like if you are playing from G, the detuned note would be "A", so lets say you hold A, and then while holding it play Bb, C, and come back to A, it will be equal temperament until you release it and play it again.
So either way, with or without the scale box, user scales are NOT 100% functional in the Kronos as they were in previous KORG workstations.
So please Korg, address these issues caus i really dont want to go back to the triton extreme!
#1 - fix the global scale mode "Pre/Post"
#2 - allow sysex midi messages to access the User Scales on the fly!!
Thank you All!

I can't help you but I can say that the Korg M50 suffered a similar bug (#1) and they never addressed it.
Welcome to the forums and congrats on your Kronos though!

Current Korg Gear: KRONOS 88 (4GB), M50-73 (PS mod), RADIAS-73, Electribe MX, Triton Pro (MOSS, SCSI, CF, 64MB RAM), SQ-64, DVP-1, MEX-8000, MR-1, KAOSSilator, nanoKey, nanoKontrol, 3x nanoPad 2, 3x DS1H, 7x PS1, FC7 (yes Korg, NOT Yamaha).
What you are sending is only the USER scales sysex and key per patch. You are not tuning the Global user scale to tune each note.
Korg is aware of the issue but has not yet fixed it.

Hello,
There is a solution for your problem although it is not easy. On the early Korgs you could use the global to change the scales with a midi box designed for arabic music. I designed many of those years ago before most of todays arabic musicians were born. I still play but don't design anymore, however there is a solution. Korg M3 and Kronos still have user scales that can be preset to rast and bayat etc. What has to be done is a scale controller that doesn't use aftertouch, or global like the AK2. That solution sucks because you have to program each voice with special settings for the AK2 to work correctly. I have some sysex commands that really help to do that via a computer, saves lots of time. I use my laptop to send sysex to change the user scales on the fly. Works great. Very fast with no glitches. A box with switches could be built to do that in realtime. This could be used on M3 or Kronos. I might consider designing a box as I have many friends in the same situation as you. If I do I will let you know when I have decide to build them in volume. I actually have one I modified for a friend that works the M3 and the Kronos.

Abesix,
Welcome to the Forum!
I think your solution is ok if people want to use fixed scales rather than using a method which allows the user to select individual notes i.e C, D, E, etc..
In fact, few years ago, I have the same concept as yours but my customers did not like it.
