The R3 software and Cubase

Post by Evildoer »

I am on my way to get a R3, but I have one question. I tried to find the answer but I could not find it unfortunately. Can I use Cubase and the R3 software at the same time? Does "release audio in background" work to get the sounds from the R3 and the R3 software to work at the same time as I am using cubase to record? This is offcourse very important for me. I know other synts even has vsti's which is offcourse very temptning, but I really like the R3 so if it works out nice I think I will get one.. of not, well.. I am not the guy who likes to sit for hours figuring out how to solve problems instead of doing music :P

The R3 software doesn't produce any sound. Sound only comes out the headphone and stereo jacks on the back of the R3, regardless of what's opened on your computer. Think of the software like a video game controller. It just an alternative way to program the synthesizer, much like plugging in a controller into a system and pressing buttons to operate the game.

Yes offcourse, how stupid of me.. I am used to softsynts nowadays.. so there really should be no problem running this prog at the same time as I am running cubase offcourse.. and the only difference between this and the vsti-version in other synths is that I can open them in the program (cubase)? It must be so.. thinking of for example what the nova novation has.

The R3 software opens up just as a standalone program, not as a VST. You should be able to run both programs fine though. The R3 editor takes up very little CPU and I've been able to get Ableton to sequence the R3 even while the editor was opened and running.

Sounds great, I hope it does with cubase as well. Been reading about some having problems with just cubase, emu 0404 (the soundcard I use) and the R3. But this could be only a few, comparing to everyone that use the same setup.. :)
