I am thinking about buying a PA500. Somewhere I read you can connect the PA500 to your Mac/PC and write and read files from the PA500's SD card. Exactly what can you do with this setup? Does it mean you can arrange songs in a list and write that setup to the SD Card? This would be exactly what I need to do if that is the case. Also, if that is the case, how many of these "setups" does the OS allow you to write to a single SD Card.

Yes, you can connect the PA500 to a PC as a storage device via a USB cable. The maximum size SD card supported by the PA500 is 2GB - You can store a ton of material (midis, songbooks, performances, styles, backups, etc) on 2GB. You can also use multiple 2GB SD cards should you want to organize your resources that way.
I have hundreds of styles and resources on my 2GB SD card and still have 1.6GB free.

To enable you to arrange or alter individual performances anywhere else but on the keyboard itself, you would need a dedicated software program on your computer. This is not available free (probably not commercially either). The SD memory card will only transfer files to and fro in the usual way. The song book function does have a software editor for computer but that is rather limited. If you download the pa500 user manual from korgpa.com you will see the details. A free software program called XRM may be of some assistance for making lists of styles and performances but that's all.

if you are thinking of buying a Pa 500, have you ever considered to get a
Pa 500 Musikant ?
The price for this Keyboard is over here:
http://www.musicstore.de/en_EN/CHF/Keyb ... 002417-000
just 746,22 € without Purchase tax. You will get a lot more Keyboard for
your money ( more styles and more sounds ).
In addition you will (after you have registerd your Keyboard at the Download-Site -Software and Tools for Pa-Series- ) at www.korg.de,
get acces to at least 100 or more modern styles especially arranged for the Pa 500 Musikant and its additional Sounds.
The Pa 500 Musikant is a real great Keyboard

Hi Deane,
I am sure Capricorn's advice is well meant but it does not cut grass.
the 500Musikant version ( which I owned as well) was developed especially for the German speaking market. Hence all labels, names etc. are in German. Furthermore you would find it almost impossible to get one in the USA , let alone for a fair price.
The differences with the international PA500 are not as big as Capricorn thinks. In fact apart from the German phrases and terminoligy the only real difference is the fact that the Musikant has approx. 40 extra basic new samples. Most of these are organ oriented, also there are a number of drum additions among which a snare sound that is better than on the standard PA500. All the rest is the same and can be swapped. But due to the fact just described you can turn any 500Musikant into a 500Standard , but not vice versa.
At the time I thought it worthwile to order the 500musikant but only for the fact that the pricetag was the same and I have no problems in reading the German tags, etc.etc.
Hope this helps to clarify where the PA500musikant stands......or stood....
kind regards,
John
