Will there be a new Kronos X Forum?
I'm wondering Sharp if there will be a new Kronos X forum as there were separate forums for the various Triton range?
I personally think that needs a little consideration. - from new features in Kronos X arguably needing their own space to how the community (and this forum) views this development - you could actually have an impact (however minor) on the perception of Kronos as a range and hence its longevity.
From a functionality point of view - the hardware inclusion of Ethernet is, IMO, significant and an interesting move by Korg. This allows for seamless multitrack Audio and MIDI to be streamed in an utterly seamless and professional way with computers (I draw your attention to top end Yamaha digital consoles using Ethernet as their preferred mode of connectivity). So this hardware improvement alone potentially brings Kronos into a more 'professional' domain.
Kevin.

Sorry, Kevin, but that would not make ANY sense to me.
The Kronos X is nothing but a slight hardware update (SSD and RAM) and not a bit comparable with several Triton editions.
All Kronos users share the same OS 2.0 - exactly as it should be - and therefore there can not even exist a single question which would seprate Kronos X users from Kronos users. The latter by the way can also update their synths to the same hardware specifications as the "X".

The ethernet connection will also be available for the Kronos.

There is no Ethernet connector into Kronos X. You must add an USB-Lan adapter sold separately and not provided by korg (but supported within a exhaustive list).the hardware inclusion of Ethernet is, IMO, huge
So every old Kronos will have the same ethernet features than Kronos X.
As far as I know, Audio & Midi will stay thru USB. Ethernet is for faster file transfer only, and that's great !

Ah! No Ethernet on board by default - a pity. though Ethernet is more reliable for streaming than USB (even though Ethernet is 'Frame' based and not streamed, it happens at a lower level in the netowk layer and (I believe) offers better 'pseudo-streaming' performance. That said, Kronos doesn't really have enough audio and midi chanels to make a difference.neomad wrote:There is no Ethernet connector into Kronos X. Still - overall Kronos X is, by default, a higher spec than Kronos and hence by default starts the user off from a different vantage point. And - it is a totally different hardware release (even if on paper performing the same the many hardware issues with Kronos will be different to those for Kronos X). In my opinion, it deserves its own forum to separate all of the pertenent issues - as with the Triton range; and as said, may affect the perception of Krono as a range and affect its longevity. Kronos X is a different release to Kronos after all. I think, for those reasons, it does make sense.

Based on what?Kevin Nolan wrote: And - it is a totally different hardware release (even if on paper performing the same the many hardware issues with Kronos will be different to those for Kronos X).
Even if they get the RH3 issues under control (which is urgent for every Kronos or Kronos X buyer all the same), this still doesn't give any reason for having a separate Kronos X forum. And there was no indication of any other hardware exchange (mainboard, other components).
So all in all: name a single question for us which could only be debated in a Kronos X forum and not just as well in the present Kronos forum?
If you can't, you answered your own proposal, I guess.

not really, yes you can store more samples in more memory but that's basicly it. The Kronos features are completely the same.Kevin Nolan wrote:Still - overall Kronos X is, by default, a higher spec than Kronos and hence by default starts the user off from a different vantage point.
It makes no sense in my opinion to open a new forum because someone's kronos got a bigger SSD and 1 GB more by default.
Most people have already their Gigabyte maxed out and storage space on a ssd is not an issue at all in 2012. If you need more storage space then add a second SSD and off you go.
Re: Will there be a new Kronos X Forum?
No, there will be no KRONOS X section added. At best I will just modify the description of this part of the forum since both keyboards are identical in function.Kevin Nolan wrote:I'm wondering Sharp if there will be a new Kronos X forum as there were separate forums for the various Triton range?

The additional RAM installed at the factory and a larger SSD are the only differences between the two.

Sharp, good call. This forum is exceptionally cool as it is. Fortunately, we will all be having at least the 2.0 o.s.. I don't think anyone will wish to stay at the 1.6 or lower. I am hoping that when the 2.0 is available to all of us, that it will be like the other operating system upgrades and not change the sounds or locations that we have purchased and carefully placed.
Since my last point is speculation and Sharp, you are one of the tech blessed, what do you think?

Kronos 2 61, Wavestation A/D, Yamaha Genos and others.
You will be able to switch on and play away instantly. The OS installs the exact same way previous updates are installed. It will not mess up your data.I am hoping that when the 2.0 is available to all of us, that it will be like the other operating system upgrades and not change the sounds or locations that we have purchased and carefully placed.

I assume all sounds will be as they were, the update only adds features and does not change them (except probably bugs that are solved).DennyC wrote:Sharp, good call. Btw, for PCG Tools I will support 2.0 of course, but I will not fix bugs specifically for 1.6 or before anymore (also because I will not have the possibility to go back to 1.6 reasonably to reproduce the problem).

The Ethernet feature is only for FTP transfers for things like PCG files and samples to and from your PC to the Kronos HDD, nothing more and nothing less. There is an FTP daemon that you can enable in the global configuration - you would then use either a cli-based FTP client or something like Filezilla to transfer files. All it does is eliminate the need to transfer files with a USB key.Kevin Nolan wrote:Ah!
