Patch changes with sequencer

Post by sounddog »

I've been a proud SV-1 88 owner since 2009, and I still find it as much of a joy to play today as the day I first brought it home. I originally bought it to bring to gigs and jam sessions and was extremely pleased as to how easy it was to dial up my favourite sounds and effects.

Lately I've been trying to incorporate the SV into my midi rig to use in a highly sequenced show band, and I'm finding a lot of limitations with it's midi implementation. With only 36 programs and 8 favorites to save to, I was hoping that I could make subtle changes to my sounds by sending Control Changes from my sequencer. Unfortunately, not all the knobs and buttons seem to be controllable with CC#'s. (You can turn the different fx sections on or off, but I can't seem to change from one type of effect to another ie. from Chorus to Phaser) When I turn a TYPE knob on the board, I'm able to record the SysEx data in the sequencer, but it seems to be ignored by the SV when I play it back. Is there something I'm missing here?

The SV Editor works fine with my board, so it doesn't sound like a hardware limitation to me. Why would Korg choose to not include access to these parameters with CC#'s? Does anyone have any good workarounds for this issue? Do I have to buy an Electro??? :(

I have the same keyboard. I bought mine in 2010. This is not an answer, but I wonder if the SV-1, with its reliance on analog-type characteristics, was designed for full midi implementation. They probably figure that, eh, the SV-1 won't be used as a sound module, so why bother adding midi implementations a lot of keyboardists won't use. Just curious.
