Ametuer player looking to improve

Post by luapaulooza »

I know all my major and pentatonic and kind of minor scales (but don't really plan on playing much solemn music so I haven't taken the time and probably will have to learn them soon since I am a music ed major), and am learning general music theory in school and on my own.

But I would like some suggestions of artists that use a good amount of synthesizer in their music that I can practice off of, or get sheet music or tabs from so I can learn something more contemporary (since I am in a band as the vocalist but would like to do keys too).

Does anyone have any suggestions? I know and listen to Daft Punk of course, but some other ones, that also have guitar/bass guitar/drums in them so the band can learn them too would be nice.

I've always found that producing your own music and trying to reach outside of your current bounds is a great way to learn.

Get Keyboard Magazine. They cover a lot of territory and have transcriptions of many styles, synth programming and playing tutorials, and their online offerings are usually in audio and MIDI format. Look at YouTube too. there are a lot of resources there.
