Change motherboard

Hi.

If i change the motherboard in my kronos.... (forget the warranty) i need to do something more..? Like change bios..? Or this motherboards have the same bios inside kronos.?

But... The kronos x have the intel D525mw board... Can i change the D510mo and put the D525mw...?

My kronos is death. On start up the loading beguin... And them stop.. In three times appears setup page.. You can in the programs global or combi... And freeeeeeze...

The 99% stay in the first page... Kronos. Red bar below the k of workstation... And freeze. Dont happen anything.

I change ssd.... Is the same
Change ddr.... The same
Change sata cable... The same
I reset with dvd... Full install... Nothing
Full install and format ssd.. Nothing..

Change motherboard...? Or reset the bios in the motherboard..?

I need to loading another bios...?

I assume your Kronos is no longer under warranty? If it were, this would be something that would have been easily addressed.

Even if no longer under warranty, is better to contact your Korg service support to fix it. Better to spent 150 EUR for repair than lose 3000 EUR

If i have warranty or service in my country i send the keyboard to fix the problem. But no... NO EXIST...! The only to repair keyboards here are some independient electronics repair. And dont know this machine.!!

Im not crazy to change the motherboard if i have warranty or service korg autorized. I ask because is my only option in this moment.

Sorry to hear that Cachete, the guy is right, he has no other option...we
take thing for granted here in the west...i remember back in my country,
you needed to wait 8 months for an Audio Cable...for someone to bring
it from Germany...

Am I right that Danatkorg suggested you contact Korg USA support? Did you try that?

If the machine is still under warranty (and you bought it USA right?) then Korg USA may arrange to collect the machine and deliver it back once it's sorted.

It's worth seeing what they might offer. I can understand your situation geographically (which must be frustrating) and hope that you can get it sorted soon.

well, TBH, you are in a relatively unique situation. I've been a member of this forum since before the Kronos was released and I'm not aware of any posting users who have done what you are actually looking to do. Of course, the innards of the Kronos are fairly "pc-like," but there very well might be issues. Your best bet would be to try and track down the exact same model motherboard. While I believe the linux kernel used by the kronos is fairly up to date, there's no way to know what sort of core customizations have been done that might cause issues if you start to mix chipsets and cpu featuresets.

If this is truly your only option, my best advice would be to just try it and report back to us.

I started with the Kronos 88 in February, and upgrade the whole keyboard to Kronos X 88. The difference with the new motherboard is so small, its
not noticeable as faster or slower. This makes almost no difference.
i would not bother changing the motherboard, based on the fact that
there doesn't seem to speed up anything. The biggest difference is getting a faster Solid State Drive over the original SSD in the original Kronos, which was very slow. OCZ makes a wonderful drive for about $100 for 120 GB and its many times faster than the original Kronos SSD.
This makes the boot time a very small bit faster, and saving is a bit faster. It seems that the Kronos will take time to boot because it has to check out the systems before completing starting the user interface.

Don't change the motherboard, buy a SSD that's faster for a small improvement in startup.

While I understand your predicament, if you do decide to change the MoBo to the Intel D525MW, be careful as I have heard that out of the box, it will not boot from a standard Linux Kernel (The Kronos OS is based on Linux) without a Bios update, several other boot problems have also been reported. Google "D545MW Boot Problems" and you'll see what I mean. Maybe Korg have used a custom Bios... who knows.

Personally, I just wouldn't risk it. Try and get it to an authorised dealer, it may take time and effort, but you don't want to flush $3000 down the pan.
