QR tutorial suggestions

Post by QuiRobinez »

i've started working on a new set of tutorials and i thought it was a good idea to give you all more influence on the topics that i'm going to explain, therefor i'm going to use this thread.

I've scheduled three tutorials at the moment in the following order:

tutorial 15: Creating Custom KARMA GE's with the KARMA MW software
this explains how to create your own arpeggiator patterns (in the tutorial i'm using a couple of famous riffs of songs) in a daw and export and import this in the KARMA MW software to create a similar KARMA GE pattern and use those patterns in a combi on the kronos.

tutorial 16: using the Kronos with Cubase 7
this explains how you can use the Kronos Combi mode in cubase 7 where i will explain how you can use the 16 timbres in a song together with VSTi's and how to render your song in realtime to a WAV file.

tutorial 17: Creating and using streaming sample libraries with the Korg Kronos
This tutorial explains how to create your own streaming library, the focus in this tutorial will be how the samples are added to existing and new libraries.

Now since i still have to record these videos there is still time to give some suggestions about things in the kronos that you don't understand yet. That way i can see if i can enter some examples in the tutorials above if it's possible to explain.

Also if you got other ideas for tutorials just let me know here.

Great and many thanks in advance 8)

Could you include please some general advice in the tutorial #16 that one like me not working with Cubase can benefit from your tips too?

Good to hear that more of your excellent tutorials are to come!
I would love to know a bit more about where Kronos stores sample files and how to assign them to programs. I've had some troubles with custom samples, because Kronos couldn't find them anymore after I saved the PCG and KSC files. I had to reassign the samples everytime I started the Kronos. Would be great to know why... :-)

Hi Qui:

Anything to do with patchscripts and creating/using plug-in panels/automation in Cubase would be most welcome.

(Also any instruction/explanation of what 'delay compensation' is and how to use it would be appreciated)

Your videos have been the next best thing to personal instruction for me, for which I am mightily thankful. 8)

That's a rather specific topic for cubase, although it makes sense to create a tutorial for it. Would it be sufficient if i show how to create the following?:
- create a midi device map with a cutoff and resonance button that is connected to the kronos RTC cutoff and resonance
- create a user interface for that midi device map
- create an external instrument named: Kronos Synth
- attach that user interface to the external instrument
- show how to load the external instrument and use your own automation panel for automation of the sounds

This way you have created a 'vst like' instrument for the Korg Kronos through your hardware analog ins.

yes, these instructions are included in my original storyboard. If you use the Kronos as an external instrument all the audio signals are delayed correctly according to your used vst's and FX.

This is a big part of the explanation since you need to set up cubase to work this way. But if you finished that then you can use it in any project.

It's a good suggestion of you, i will think about it how to do this in a tutorial. Maybe it's a better idea to do a separate tutorial series for cubase only. I know cubase a lot better then the kronos and there's so much you can do with cubase from a producer perspective, so it's good that you mentioned it, i'm going to think about this too.

Qui,

One suggestion related to tutorial 17.

It would be very useful, some tips about the main features of HD1 engine ... the manuals help-me a lot with "the basic process", but certainly some "tips from the master" would be very interesting to improve He sampler.

Thanks for all the support

All your planned works sound interesting as usual.

Many thanks of course.

I ploughed through the Karma MW software tutorials and felt somewhat overwhelmed. Especially the part about modifying drum patterns to fit the measures.

Looking forward to these tutorials.

These sound really interesting. While I am personally most interested in #15 as I am spending most of my time in the software lately. If you haven't done them yet I might suggest doing 17 first. As you have probably noticed questions come up on this issue a lot.

In #15 it would be interesting to see any specific techniques or ideas you have developed outside of the "Import to GE" tutorial - there is a lot there to cover. Thanks!

Great Idea QuiRobinez - thanks for the wonderful tutorials so far.
The Kronos is a complex environment and we need all the help we can get.

Cubase 7 under the Christmas tree!, and I've been experimenting with how to best integrate with version 7. Looks like Kronos can not be used as VST, or have its audio delivered by USB - Kronos needs a ADAT interface.

Korg - please allow the optical port to have ADAT protocol -
-- we need a Connection for several audio tracks from Kronos on separate channels to PC/Mac - ADAT can do this.

Thanks Qui for all the previous information and tutorials.

I hope so! There does not seem to be a lot of discussion on using KK but it awesome software and I am amazed at some of the things it has allowed that I couldn't do with just the Kronos. Would be great to see more discussion around it.
