AKG Headphones for Kronos
Are these headphones a safe bet? Will Kronos handle them well? I know its been discussed before but Im trying to decide.

The Q701s receive a bit of a mixed response from people, it might be worthwhile to read some of Amazon's reviews: http://tinyurl.com/ady7c4s
The problem with AKGs in general is that the sound is often really flat and neutral, often there isn't any bass to speak of. I'm not talking about needing a booming hip hop bass, but there should be some.
I have the smaller headphones from the Quincy Jones range (Q460) and they're quite good. The only problem is a ridiculously short cord.

Re: AKG Headphones for Kronos
I own a pair of AKG K240 Studio and use them regularly with my Kronos - absolutely satisfied. At least these do have enough bass - sometimes it's already a bit too much for my taste, but in general I agree with MrDuke: they are quite neutral in the best sense. Not recording engineer's 'neutral', but listener's 'neutral' ...hammondcuni wrote:Are these headphones a safe bet? Will Kronos handle them well? I use the K702 with the highest possible degreee of satisfaction. They do not only sound neutral in a very detailed way, they also have much less of the "in ear audio image" effect, which normally makes headphone sound a bit unnatural and tiring, compared to speaker monitor listening. With the K702, I can listen to mixes, synth playing or music for hours. The K 701 are very similar.

I've been using AKG 220 MA for over a decade. It sounds great and I use with Kronos to my fullest satisfaction. Recently i got a gift - Bose AE2 and I was surprised that kronos sounded thin and very different.
However, the beauty of that headphone was that it clearly sounded some of the notes I could hardly hear with the AKG. I enjoy listening through AKG but for the purposes of mixing and correcting notes, I prefer the Bose (I doubt if anyone uses Bose for serious work).
I'm happy with both of them actually as they suit different needs. In fact i've got a stereo jack spiltter plugged to the K's headphone jack so that Ican check the recording with both of them.

I had the K701, which I sold to buy the Q701. I haven't looked back since.
There are other good heaphones out there, but I cannot see myself change for anything else, particularly when you realise that the K701/702/Q701 are incredible for the money !
I just love them. Confortable (to me anyway) and great for mixing. The reveal stuff you didn't know was there.
I would happily recommend them.
