Tutorial: Comb filter fun!

Post by CharlesFerraro »

I gathered the tricks here from some pretty top tier sound designers, namely former admin Daz, and synth guru Dan Worrall.

In this thread: http://www.korgforums.com/forum/phpBB2/ ... hlight=daz Daz talks about how to tune the comb filter. He's absolutely correct, 48 is the Cutoff value needed to have a properly pitched pluck sound. He doesn't mention that 72 will sound an octave above that and 96 will give you two octaves, 108 for three and so forth.

In this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qnDU6i0aFX8 Dan Worrall uses U-he's MFM2 to create a plucked comb filter effect with a <20 millisecond delay while using a drum loop for the impulse response function.

My tutorial shows how to use a drum loop to create a kind of rhythmic guitar-ish sound: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cyyOtWHm ... e=youtu.be
