Question regarding RAM.

Post by cjeffers »

Hello everyone. I just picked up my Kronos on Friday!
Totally thrilled by it!

I realize it shipped with 2Gb ram from the factory.
1Gb is used for loading the samples at start up ( Correct me if I am wrong).

I loaded some of the Extra EXs on the hard drive and realized I have only about 200 mb after the preload.pcg is loaded.

If I upgrade the memory to, say 3/4Gb, would I be able to load all the EXs or is that just limited to 1Gb?

If so, what RAM do you recommend?

What is the RAM limit on the Kronos?

Thanks and forgive me ignorance

Hi cjeffers

The limit for the Kronos is 3GB - it makes no difference if you fit more it just won't be recognised.

Having the extra 1G will allow you to use the instrument much more effectively.

Approximately 1 GB of this RAM is used by the operating system and ROM sample data. The remainder is shared between the samples in EXs, User Sample Banks, and Sampling Mode.

For compatibility with the KRONOS, RAM must comply with the following specification: 240‐Pin PC2‐6400 CL‐5 (or CL‐6) DDR2‐800 non‐ECC Unbuffered DIMM 1GB

Is the Korg system only 32bit? A 3gig RAM memory limit is well known for 32bit OS's..

Not that it's a problem, just asking is all....

I have found this stick @ 1Gig Hynix 1GB DDR2 800MHz PC2-6400 (PC2-6400 - DDR2) non-ECC ......should be okay, yes?
