Fried PSU or fried Radias?

Post by cibine »

Hello, I just had a problem with my 3 year old radias and I m wondering if anyone has any experience with something similar.

Here is what happened:
I simply switched the unit on today. The OS started and then the screen went black and switched off. This was followed by the usual smell of "fried circuits" :) and an OMFGggggFF scream. So i turned everything off straight away.

I tested it with the PSU from my ESX-1 (same model PSU) and the radias boots up fine. So far all of the functions are working and there is sound and midi signal (from USB) coming out of the unit. However there is no smell from the PSU. The burnt smell came from the PSU socket on the radias. I guess it was a power surge frying the PSU but the smell coming out of the Radias has got me thinking. Has anyone had any similar experience and do you think its a good idea to send the unit for a service or something?

Many thanks! :D
