Roland Integra-7

Post by T7 »

Roland realize the demand for rackmount gear in the Integra-7. It even has an iPad controller app.

Make a rackmount Kronos already, Korg.

Is anybody with me?

Never say never, but the (un?)official word from Korg is there will not be a Kronos rack.

I have been giving that considerable consideration lately as well. A very nice unit with sounds I like but not all the bells and whistles of the Kronos!

A rack mounted KRONOS would be fantastic. I would certainly buy one and keep it forever.

I bought a Integra 7 and I will be keeping that forever too.

Sharp .

Judge for yourself by listening to my KRONOS and Integra playing the same track.

Here's my Integra 7
<iframe width="640" height="360" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/dLbZU_ibmfo" frameborder="0"></iframe>

The Integra 7 has a fantastic array of sounds and they are all extremely high quality. It complements my KRONOS perfectly.

Compared to the KRONOS, I find the Integra 7 has a more live feel to its overall sound which also gives the illusion of distant, where the KRONOS has a Studio feel to its sound and it's far warmer, closer and up front.

I find that this is a very big positive thing when they are used together.

It's only noticeable when you compare one against the other tough, and some people can't even tell the difference. I can, and I can hear it easily. That siad, if you had listened to only the Roland playing the track above, you would have no complaints.

So bottom line for me is, both work super well together, and the integra 7 is more than able to stand on it's own.

Regards
Sharp.

I also have both.

You feel the differences if you use K sound without triggering them a bit. Especially in the strings and guitars that in Integra the SuperNatural are really superb. No match on the pianos where the K is far away from every other keyboard.

But together are a perfect marriage and you will have all what you need for the next whole year.

That's my opinion.

Sorry Sharp, but I can't follow you here, though both definitely have good sounds.

The Integra in fact has some high quality SN sounds on board.
But at the same time it offers lots of outdated stuff from former boards, where I don't mind the age, but the sound quality by today's standards (Kontakt libraries, VSTis etc.). They sound very familiar to me, after owning an XV 2020, a Fantom X7 and a Fantom G7, plus half of the available SRX expansion boards. 2013 certainly lets me look for another level of sound quality.

To me much of your Integra example, while it doesn't sound bad at all, still has quite a flat, sometimes in your face, sometimes distant character, as you noticed yourself. To me many Integra sounds are miles behind what I would like to use today, not considering the incredible overall design weaknesses of this rack. And the Integra is not even available on the merket at the moment.

There is still a lot left to enjoy with it, but from my view all in all not on a level, which would raise too much entusiasm on my side, except for some of the SN and synth sounds.

I also have no idea what discussing the Roland Integra has to to do in the Kronos section of this forum. With the pretext, that you can combine any keyboard to the midi outs of the Kronos, we could as well discuss each and every keyboard available, as long as it has midi connections, in this Kronos section. But that doesn't make any sense to me either. This thread belongs to the general synth section IMHO. Or should I open one "my-Access-TI- complements-my-Kronos-well" thread and one "my-Moogs complement-my-Koronos-well" thread next in here? I can also offer racks, if that's the point.

Hi jimknopf.
But at the same time it offers lots of outdated stuff from former boards, where I don't mind the age, but the sound quality by today's standards (Kontakt libraries, VSTis etc.). Very true, and with only 4 Virtual Slots for expansion boards and a number of excellent SuperNatural expansions available to load, none of the virtual slots on my Integra would be occupied by the old SRX boards.

So for me they are a complete waste. I'm only using all the new content.

Just my 2 cents but main cause of the Integra sounding distant to me is that it's effects section is very weak and the quality of them is not of the same quality as a KORG. I get around this quite simply by making use of the KRONOS HDR function.

Recording my Integra tracks dry into the KRONOS allows me to use the KRONOS effects to solve my problem. It also means I don't have to use the Integra Studio Sets which is find by me since there's nowhere near enough of them.

It's a mix of both right now. If it diverts more towards the Roland, it will be moved as I've moved other Roland threads in the past. (JP vs KRONOS)

Not meant bad: Sharp, I just stumbled over it, and maybe I'm a bit more critical after my own years long Roland history, plus some older experiences with Roland threads in the Korg Kronos section. :)

No worries.

I don't disagree with anything you have said at all. Totally understand your view.

As for past Roland thread in the KRONOS section, I remember spending hours upon hours moderating them so you can be sure if this one starts to shift in the direction the others did, without a second thought it will be moved.

Just trying to maintain a healthy balance here.

Sharp.

I would be interested in a rack mount only if there's a proper, decent editor to go along with it, otherwise a module version a la M3M would have my vote.

Listening to the Rocky arrangement I find the KRONOS drums, bass and piano sounding better and more alive and spacious than the Integra, and to my surprise the brass on the KRONOS also sounds better suited for the arrangement.
But when it comes to the guitar emulation the KRONOS is miles behind the Integra.

Having said that, I suppose this is an arrangement tailor-made for the KRONOS and then played back on the Integra?
