Urgent Help Needed
Hello friends,
I am flying internationally in two weeks with my Kronos 73. Can anyone please suggest me with a reliable ATA case that I can safely fly my Kronos 73 in for a flight journey of over 18 hours? I am very scared of damaging my keyboard !! The keyboard is very heavy and I am scared that the luggage handlers at the airport will throw my keyboard and will break it.
PS: I am sorry if this post is redundant but I am kind of in an emergency and needed an urgent help. Once my question is answered I don't mind if the post is deleted. I apologize in advance to everyone for any inconvenience caused.

I've posted it a year ago, and have no response..
Unfortunately, IMHO your best bet is
1. Gator case
2. Custom cases on e-bay that is called FLIGHT CASE
3. the last is your kronos packaging box..
Those airport baggage handlers... They just throw away things even if it has "Fragile" stickers/stamps on their tops...

@1jordyzzz, I have Gator GKPE 76 Deep ATA Case at present, but I somehow am scared with that case. Do you think in that case if I wrap my Kronos with heavy duty bubble wrap and stuff it with peanuts it will survive impacts and throws by airport luggage handlers?
@MarPabl, do not ever trust that Official Korg Case buddy. I owned one and I gave it away to a friend who travels by road for his gigs within the US. It is not designed to withstand any impact or weight on it. At airports, they stack bags over each other. So to simulate luggage container situation, I stood on that case myself and guess what !!! Yes it bent at least 4 inches inward. (And yes I weigh only 165 lbs) !!

Maybe you could check with the airline and see what their policy is on sensitive electronic equipment. Any chance of renting a Kronos at your destination?

@dswtan, yes it is a permanent move.
@ronnfigg, I went to see the airline check-in counter and the agent told me that in the current case that I have (Gator GKPE 76D), it will be $800 charge for taking it as a luggage. Originally my plan was to bubble wrap the keyboard in like 4 or 5 layers of heavy duty bubble wrap, and then stuffing peanuts around it and packaging material wherever possible and take it. But it scares me that if TSA guys open it to check it and doesn't put the packaging material the way it was back again, there are more chances that my keyboard could end up being damaged in Gator GKPE 76D.
Guys, can anyone please share their opinion about flying Kronos 73 with the G-TOUR 76V2 heavy duty hard case? It is 51 lbs w/o the keyboard, so I believe with the keyboard and packing in it it should be approximately 100 lb. total. Do you all think this case is a good idea to fly with?
It is shameful that no company SKB, GATOR or blah blah hasn't come with a case designed for one of the most popular keyboards worth more than 3k USD.
All guys posting reply and trying to help me, I am very very much thankful to you all.

They want over 800$ for it to fly as luggage! I wouldn't pay that even of it was round trip, bu it is probably one way? I would just back up everything then take the back up with you and rent one where ever you are going. Provided that is a possibility. I also wouldn't check it at the counter but take it to the gate and gate check it. At least then it has a fraction of the distance to go with strange people handling it and conveyor systems to ride I a and be tossed around on.
Korg case is a crap thing.. Many complaints despite it's enormous price (prices comparable to gator or custom case)..

@ronnfigg, if I pack it in original case, the airport custom authority in India is gonna reap me off for custom and excise duties, since this is not visiting but moving to India.
@Bertotti, I don't even know whether they'll allow me to take a case this oversized and weighing nearly 100 lbs to the gate or anywhere inside the airport beyond check-in / security point. I know $800 is a big amount but no other option
unless I let DHL ship it to India before I leave from the US. DHL's quote to this shipping was about $405.00 + I owe them Custom duty they pay for me before delivery to my door in India.
btw, did anyone happen to check G-TOUR 76V2 or even RoadRunner Case with Casters for 76 keys? That thing looks bomb proof but is obese (overweight)

Sell the Kronos?
For the costs involved is it not just worth backing up all your data files, sequences and samples and sell the keyboard locally then buy a new keyboard when you arrive at your destination?
You will save the cost of a new flight case and the carriage costs. This would cover any possible loss on the sale of your existing Kronos and then just buy a brand new kronos when you arrive, load up your data and off you go....
Of course you will also save yourself the worry and stress of the transportation. This may also help with any power differences/connetions/sockets etc..between countries?
Another alternative may be to look into insurance cover for peace of mind but that would be even more additional cost which makes the original suggestion even more appealing.
Good luck!

@DavyP, I agree and trust me, it was the first option that I considered. The cost of purchasing brand new Kronos 73 in India in USD is approximately $4200, whereas the one I have here, I paid $2100 for brand new to one of the best dealers (ProAudioStar) couple months ago. So that being said, if I take this one to India paying the shipping, $2100 (Keyboard) + $800 (Shipping) + $300 (estimate for case) + $200 (insurance estimate) totals up to $3400, which would still be at least $800 cheaper than purchasing it in India.
Of course, it would free me from worries and stresses of transporting this to India !! I am considering RoadRunner Case for 76 keys keyboards or Gator G-TOUR 76V2. As soon as I get an input about them from one of you on this post, I will make my decision. I would never listen to advice from sellers because their goal is to sell their products and not worry about our keyboard. I spent lot of money to buy this keyboard and so did all of you. Nobody other than us owners would be honest on suggesting what is best for our keyboards.

DavyP has a good idea. And someho g else to think about is warranty. Once in India, God forbid something happens to the Kronos will they do any warranty work, if it is still warrantable, or will you have to ship it back again for repair? If you buy a new one there maybe you'll save that hassle as well.
