new user here. i have a handicap and was excited at the possibility of playing an instrument without keys. i have limited mobility on my right side. i bought the kaoss pro and its smaller counterpart after researching on youtube for something that suited my needs. does it play by itself? i didn't anticipate buying a mixer right away. meaning do i have to plug it into another sound source? oh and can someone tell me how to turn it on/off? i cannot find the power switch and the headphones that came with it don't fit! frustrated.

i bought this product to use on its own. pls be nice i don't know what i'm doing but am eager to learn. do i need a sound card?

Kaossilator Pro can be used as a separate unit - no need for mixer or soundcard. There is a on/off switch at the back of the unit. I don´t know about your headphones, but you need ¼" Stereo Jack. Only first 185 programs are sound, the rest are effects.

Double ditto on this. I mean, at least take some time to read up on the gear. How can you not even find the power switch? Are you sure hardware is the right thing for you if you can't even find something as simple as this? Not trying to be a douche here but if you actually did your research as you said you did, I doubt you'd be asking things like can it play on its own and do you plug in a sound source.]

Start by reading the manual, because these are very basic things that you're asking.

Sound card - you don't necessarily need unless you're trying to do quality recording. But of course, you should learn the gear first before you start trying to record.

As for the headphones, get an adaptor and you'll be fine. I'm guessing you have 1/8 in connector so you'll need a 1/4 adaptor.

Good thing you told us to be nice to you, because when I read that you couldn't even find the power button I was halfway toward erecting a cross to nail you to, but I'll be good.

"does it play itself?" -First of all, the KPO does have enough onboard sounds that you don't strictly need any other gear, if that's what you meant. It does have this cool feature called "Pad Motion" that, when you hold the button down and swirl your finger around the pad, records that motion (remember it's not synced to the beat though!). This is in addition to the built-in sequencer, so you can make loops and play them on top of each other in time with the rest of your loops. So yeah, by these definitions and with some initial messing around, you can make it "play itself" to a degree. You can also route sound into it, either a mic with a regular guitar-style plug, or using what's called RCA, (or "phono") cables. Get a converter if you need to.

Power button is on the back but you need to plug it in. Give it a second to boot up before you give up and sell it.

You don't need anything else, but you might wanna get an SD card with the right specs (CHECK THE MANUAL!) so you can back up your work. If you have any other questions, first play with it then check the manual, then get back to us.

You don't need a mixer. You can use it with headphones, PC speakers or plug it into your PC.

you will need a 1/4 inch jack adapter for your headphones if they are 1/8 inch (standard mobile device headphone/earphone jack). This adapter will also allow you to plug PC speakers into the headphone jack to play thru the speakers.

power switch is a toggle button on the back.

it doesn't play itself but you can record loops that you have played onto the 4 sample banks (A, B, C, D) and you can also save those loops onto an SD card to load back onto it in future.

now for the Kaossilator mini...

you can plug this into the Kaossilator Pro with an RCA-to-RCA cable so no need for a mixer. just make sure to set the silver input toggle switch on the top left of the KaPro to 'line in' [not MIC] and set the input volume knob so that when you are playing the kaossilator mini into it that the level LED doesn't go red at high volumes.

I don't know about turning the mini on/off tho. but you will need fresh batteries in it if you dont have a power adapter for it.

If you want to plug the Kaossilator Pro into your computer you will need an RCA-to-1/8 inch cable to plug into your mic/line-in on computer.

the Kpro has pad motion?!! I thought only the KP3 did.

THE KPO DOESN'T HAVE PAD MOTION? I was just so sure it would that I made the assumption...whoops! That thing just went down another notch in my ill-informed opinion. I figured since the KP2, KP3 and KPE have it then surely the synth one would...

Well, doesn't K-PRO technically have pad motion since you record what you play by moving your finger on the screen? It's just called Loop Recorder because thats what it's used for.

ty everyone. i'll take your knowlege into consideration. i have limited mobility and essentally was waiting for the techhnology to catch up to my needs. in my case, a keyboard would be useless. i appreciate the time everyone took to educate me. i'm artistic. i paint, write, shoot pics and make ametuer films. but recently have become bored and thought i'd give music a try. i wanted something that would be fun to experiment with. still excited to learn and not giving up.

looks like i'm getting a headphone adaptor for my k pro and speakers and usb cord. that's ok i can wait a little longer. i appreciate your opinions on it.
