Ableton full integration options

Post by tonidude »

I'd like to fully integrate R3 into my Ableton so I can save all sounds settings and presets inside Ableton and combine it with e.g. Ableton's midi effects such as the new LFO.

What options do I have and how much work would each require? I've come up with at least the following:

1. Create a specialised panel for Ctrlr (http://ctrlr.org/) which can run as a VST inside Ableton
2. Create a Max for Live device straight inside of Ableton where I would hardcode the R3 MIDI implementation

Are there other, easier options?

Would either of these options actually work, i.e. I don't have to save presets on the R3 and insert some sort of MIDI magic tracks to my Live set to reset the R3 from whatever presets it happens to have when I launch the track?

Does anyone know of any ready, even work-in-progress code (ctrlr templates or M4L devices) that I could start my work on, or do I need to start from scratch?[/url]

M4L device with the most important knobs. It is for Radias, but I think R3 has the same midi CC.

Concerning saving presets inside Ableton (as I understood, you mean like with vsts: when you save the Ableton project, vst settings are saved as well) - I think it's impossible.

If you decide to do this I would be interested in developing one for the King Korg.

Please post your progress. It may be easier to do a quick prototype in M4L, although you would need to send Sysex commands which are not directly supported (at least my understanding).

Actually, if Ableton has a tool to send patch change messages, all you would need to do is use the R3 as is, then write the patch to the R3's memory before closing Ableton so that the next time you boot up the project, it will recall that exact patch automatically via USB or MIDI. I know for certain the R3 responds to patch change messages because I use it alongside a microSTATION and have set up each song it's sequencer to change the patches for me.
