M3-88 Joystick Click

Post by Pcode »

Hi Guys,
I purchased a used M3 from eBay and it appears the joystick is a little clicky, it clicks when I move, left to right, but only at the center point, up / down is smooth, is that normal? the mod / bend works fine.

Thanks

I have 2 M3's and can hear a slight click on both of them as the joystick crosses the center point in either direction. This is normal and nothing to worry about.

But if you are hearing a loud snapping/cracking sound like something breaking that would be a problem.

Bald Eagle: I just received the new Joystick assembly with "white cover" from KORG parts, and , no it does not click at all, very very smooth, installed it and all works perfectly now.

Was it easy to install? I had to have a joystick replaced a while back and I just took it to a service center. Had to wait 3 weeks and it cost quite a bit.

Hey Bald Eagle!

I just tested the joystick on my new unit and there is absolutely no click when crossing the center point. There is only a very very light creaking which comes from the flexible elements.

Seeing how this is a quite late model (According to karma-lab it's the latest 88 they have on their list) Korg might have changed something.

Just wanted to let you know - I thought this would be a good way to actually give back a little to you.

How much have you paid for the part?

Thanks for the feedback. I guess I should have been more detailed. If I move the joystick very slowly across center I don't hear anything. If I go quickly there is a very soft sound that is somewhat like the sound it makes when it returns to zero. For example, pull the joystick all the way down and then let go. That's what I'm talking about except softer.

Anything mechanical will make some amount of noise and it's all subjective I guess. The sound that the keys make are another thing but I won't even go there. My girlfriend bugs me when I play with headphones because all she hears is a bunch of pounding and clicking. :D

Ah yes, i see what you mean. Yeah i obviously have the same "click" on mine but as you said, it's all subjective and the click sounds mechanically "right" to me. I bet the OP had some issues with the flexible elements that actually bring the joystick back to center position. I've had problems like this on other devices and usually would get a click that sounds "wrong" when i crossed the center position.

Hah! This also tells me that you most likely have the touchscreen-beep disabled otherwise this would probably be the first thing she complains about. beep-beep-beep!

It wasn't too bad, Just have to be super careful with keyboard assembly.

it's only $36 which includes the white joystick cover, assembly comes with black. So I unscrewed the black and replaced it with white.
