Post by cXrus »

Hey guys,

What exactly does it mean when it says Oscillator 1 and Oscillator 2? Whats the theoretical difference in sound when i use one individually or together?

The oscillators in the Krome generate the basic wave form for the program. The two oscillators provide the same functionality, there are just two of them. You can setup each oscillator with a different multisample. Then you can layer them or split them. You can think of it as a mini combi.

There's a great wiki at karma-lab that explains the EDS sound engine including the oscillators. The article is for the EDS engine in the M3 but the EDS-X engine in the Krome is pretty much the same.

For some further (fascinating) reading about synthesizer technology, here's a huge library for you. Should keep you busy for awhile...

Osc 1& 2 are basically sample players. Each Osc is the start of its own synthesis chain, so you can have two independent sounds in one program.
Each Osc can have up to 8 velocity-switched layers to trigger different samples dynamically. Using stereo samples and/or crossfading between layers uses up more simultaneous voices (polyphony).
