What is going on with the good reviews? Are those people using it to create anything other then a very simple beat?
First off, the official drivers won't work with Korg Kontrol Editor. The updater won't work without official drivers... Well, according to update release notes it is no problem that i can't update the Nanopad2, because there are only very minor bugfixes. For now i hopefully don't have to use the editor. .
I got it to work after reinstalling a few times.
The pads.... Well i have more feeling when tapping my desk or a brick. I'm not a pro with drum pads, but i think you should be able to press down the pads a little bit. They feel like i am playing on a touch screen from a mobile phone (also with same crappy response).
You have to hit them very hard to trigger any sample. Lowest velocity level that is possible is around 69. Tapping quickly with 2 fingers on the same pad is also dramatic. It will register notes only when your lucky. It doesn't catch anything more then that.
I still can't believe this... Maybe i have some sort of broken unit?
How is the Padkontrol compared to this?
Nanopad 2, worst music gear ever?

The padKontrol has a very nice feel with responsive, lighted pads. The nano products seem to be merely intended to be small and cheap, not good for pro quality needs. They're better than nothing, but not by much. If you want high quality pads, you have to pay a lot more. The padKontrol is probably the minimum I'd recommend, but the AKAI MPD and APC products, NI Maschine, or Ableton Push are the main pro quality products that have serious power. The new Push controller is really a whole new kind of instrument, but it ain't cheap.
Thanks for your reply.
I am going to send the Nanopad2 back tomorrow and i will get the PadKontrol hopefully also tomorrow. I'm pretty sure that is a whole other beast when it comes to the pads.
I did tell the store that they should compare the Nanopad2 with other Nanopad2's to make sure it is working as intended. Although i dunno if they will and doesn't matter anyway.
I am still thinking that my Nanopad2 wasn't 100% working as intended. I considered more expensive stuff, but i need that money for repair costs of a synth.
After some more playing time a few pads became a bit more responsive in triggering and feel. I can push those down a little bit like a normal button, but most of them won't go down at all.

Reply for the ppl that want to know if i like the PadKontrol.
Yes! It's not even close to what the Nanopad2 is. Pads can also be played at much lower velocity and the best of all is that they capture every note that is played. You can easily tap with 2 fingers on the same pad. All pads all feel the same.
Of course it isn't as mobile as the nanopad2, another price range (but with a lot of more functionality), but if you want to create rhythms go for the PadKontrol. I wanted to trigger samples on stage and put nanopad2 on synth, but if i am not sure that samples will be triggered each time it has no use for me.
Btw, i got same problems with midi driver. Erased all, installed old driver, installed new driver over old, installed fix, installed newest driver again. Now it works. Even set it up with 3rd party software to use it as keystrokes for quickly opening websites, reading mail or even in a game.
Also factory scenes didn't trigger anything in my vst's, because they were triggering notes one octave higher. It's easy to change.
