Sync Wave Questions

Post by Ehrgeiz »

Hello everyone,

I'm trying to program a specific sync lead for a song that I'm writing, and I'm not having any luck figuring out how to pull it off on the M50. I know how I would recreate it on other synths (NI's Massive, for example), but the way that the M50 handles sync waves is confusing me.

It's from this song. The lead starts at 15 seconds and remains prominent throughout most of the song:

I'm pretty sure that it's a sync lead with the slave oscillator being controlled by an envelope. I've noticed that many synths will have a 'sync' parameter when dealing with sync waves which can easily be tied to an envelope or an LFO, but the M50 doesn't have those controls. Do I need to be dealing with two separate sync waves in separate oscillators, or is there a control I'm missing to mess with a single sync wave? Additionally, will I be able to use the envelopes available to me on the M50 to recreate the movement in the patch?

Thanks in advance for the help!

The answer is actually easy. No.
The M50 has no sync option so you can't create those sounds with it.

I also use another synth to use sync sounds. I think it's a pity the M50 does not support that, but on the other end, it's a rompler...

I was beginning to think that might be the case, since messing with waveforms is pretty hard when you're using multisamples. =P I was hoping that I was wrong, but I'm certainly not surprised.

Thanks for the response, I appreciate it!

But with overloading amp drivers to high levels let say 127 (in oscillator double mode )you can create sound which is maybe not the same as osc sync but similiar.

Sometimes you can emulate sync by passing a highly resonant highpass filter through overdrive or fuzz.

The are also samples of sync wave sounds but obviously you won't have any control over the specific motions or the waveforms, you're stuck with whatever envelope/motion is already sampled or looped.
